Does anyone know why under 60's are at risk of the rare blood clot side affect from Astrazeneca? I would have thought that the older that someone is, the more at risk from blood clotting they are. @Shellandshilo1956, you seem to know your stuff.
I think it's a risk v's benefit thing and the risk is the same ... the difference is that your chances of having a severe reaction to covid increase once you're over 60, so it's worth the risk. When you're under 60 the chances are better with covid so its not worth risking a blood clot

People under 60 are simply at more risk from Thrombosis(a blood clot), with Thrombocytopenia(blood clot that lack blood platelets) Syndrome. Or TTS for short. People over 60 are simply at less risk. The reason why this NEW illness is of interest, is because the condition occurs in places we don't normally see clots. Such as in the brain(CVST) and the abdomen(SVT). Or, the type of clots they are(compression).
What is the causal link between TTS and the AstraZeneca vaccine? This illness is also unusual because blood platelets helps the blood to clot. So the lack of platelets should mean no clots can form. The only other rare condition similar to this, is in Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia(HIT). This condition is seen in people who take the blood thinner heparin. Some of these patients start producing antibodies AGAINST a platelet protein when it is binds to heparin. This then triggers a blood clots, which also consumes blood platelets. So it is the antibodies that are causing the clot, and also destroying the platelets.
This is exactly what is happening to a small number of people(60 in Australia) 4 - 42 days after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine. It is a very low risk(182 cases / 190M doses). But to me it is an unnecessary risk. The good thing about this condition, is that it is easily treatable. If the symptoms are not ignored.
But it is your informed choice to allow a modified version of a chimpanzee adenovirus(that causes cold in chimps) virus, to be used as a DNA vector to enter your body and into your healthy muscle cells. It is your informed choice to allow the DNA code, carried by this vector to be transcribed inside the nucleus of a health muscle cell, and then translated outside the nucleus to produce SARS-CoV-2 protein spikes. It is your informed choice to trick your immune system to believe that a healthy muscle cell, is a SARS-CoV-2 virus, and to produce only antigen-specific antibodies to fight this one virus.
My advice is to just let the body do its thing. It doesn't need any help. You cannot control nature. She was here long before we were.

More questions again? Let me help you try and think for yourself. I want you to look up the total number of people under 60 who have been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. Then, I want you to then look up the total number of people over 60, who have been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. Now look up the total number of TTS cases in each group. Now take the total number of those with TTS in each group, and divide that number by the total number of those vaccinated in each group. Then compare both numbers(risk factor) from each group. I think that you will find that more people under 60 will develop TTS.
Or like me, you can just make an educated guess. THERE ARE JUST MANY MORE PEOPLE UNDER 60, THAN THERE ARE OVER 60! Therefore, there will be more people under 60 taking the AstraZeneca vaccine, than over 60. Therefore, more people under 60 are more likely to develop TTS than people over 60.
It is probably just as simple as this. Especially, since no knows the causal link. But anytime you try to change the natural functioning of the body, it may not always respond in the way you want, all the time.
Here is something that allay your fears. Scientist have found that people more closely related to Neanderthals, have a special gene, that gives them more natural protection from this Coronavirus.

Look Chris, either you really have poor interpretation/comprehension skills, or you are misrepresenting my comments on purpose?? No body can be this daft!
I was just breaking down what the name of the illness means. It is NOT simply a thrombosis! It is an entire syndrome! TTS means Thrombosis WITH Thrombocytopenia Syndrome. It is a rare(new) type of Thrombosis that is not usually seen. But, since people started taking AstraZeneca vaccine, we see these rare cases emerging.
I was just giving you the simplest, and most obvious answer I could think of, to answer your question. Now if you think that my answer is wrong, then please do the investigation. It is very simple to prove that I'm wrong. Maybe even you can figure out how/why! In either case, 182 cases(worldwide) of TTS for every 92M doses, is only a 0.000002% chance of this vaccine's side effect happening to you. Therefore, totally irrelevant to me. Just another media hype to exploit, panic the ignorant, and increase their own ratings.
My advice is to not take it, and there will be zero chance of TTS.

You are wrong John. I have zero medical training. But I have performed 3 CPR's, and delivered 2 babies(2 girls), until paramedics/ambo's arrived.
Although I have no medical training, I can still read, and understand what I read very well.
