She is second. Only one other Australian has won more. And by only ONE medal. I measure success by the total number of medals received at the total number of Olympics.
Correct! 9 total medals(5 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze). This was over a period of 5 Olympics. Dawn Frazer(4 gold, and 4 silver), was over a period of 3 Olympics. So an argument could be made about OLYMPIC results. But it would be a mute argument at best. IMHOAny ranking between gold, silver and bronze? I guess you could also go nuts about whether the gauge is restricted to Olympic results or more broad results.
Ok, anyway, how about Ian Thorpe?
Edwin Flack must be pretty good considering he only competed in one Olympics and walked away with 2 Gold and 1 Bronze.Who is Australia's most successful Olympian?
There were 6 other Aussie Olympians who won 3 medals at one Olympic(from 1956). Australia ranks a very respectable 8th in the countries with the most number of Olympic medals.Edwin Flack must be pretty good considering he only competed in one Olympics and walked away with 2 Gold and 1 Bronze.
