“English doesn't “borrow” from other languages: it follows them down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar and valuable vocabulary.”

Orwell said something similar.

Speaking of English, I have often thought that it must be a nightmare for a non-English speaker trying to learn English. In so many ways, our language makes no sense, and one of our rules is that anything goes.

I wrote "speaking of English" and thought about the word "of".

Shouldn't that be "uv"?

:bgrin English just takes on words from all sorts of languages.
I wouldn't want to have to learn it either.
One's knowledge of it is based on a lifetime of usage....

So my question huh.?

Ummm

Try learning Dutch! In continual flux as they try to simplify it.

Bottle:
In Old Dutch: Flesch
In New Dutch: Fles

Then you have to master the guttural “g” like ggggggh

I am glad of one thing about English: after the Norman Conquest the barons spoke French and didn’t give a stuff how their serfs and villein spoke: over the next couple hundred years English turned into a non-gendered language, you didn’t have to work out if the table was feminine and the chairs masculine or vv. Unlike French with le and la etc.

I think you mean 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast'. That was Pink Floyd off Atom Heart Mother ... with a cow on the front.

I dunno what song i could restrict myself to. Music is all about my mood for me. It's like those what ten albums would you take to a desert island kind of questions. I struggle so hard with them.

Maybe "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" by Bob Dylan. That song chills me every time i hear it. And it's the song i think that speaks most clearly for me.
