Pensioners should be able to make more money on the side. They pay tax on their income (pension + other) so nothing wrong there. But if they make more than $50/fortnight or whatever they lose some of their pension!
Contrast this with the public money lavished on SMSF, plenty subsidies before retirement and more afterward.
I think of lot of talent and knowledge of boomers now retired has been lost.

I think pensions should be given to anyone and everyone, regardless of any additional income or cash in the bank. Then make them pay tax on anything they earn above the pension. It's fair and allows pensioners to live comfortably whilst they can

It seems…. The backbone of workers are getting lesser and fewer. You met my hubby… he’s a mechanic by trade…. Raised on a farm also doing physical farm work… where he works, there’s a depot in nsw where they can’t get mechanics… I said to hubby… maybe coz all these newer gens are into IT or working from home?
So you know what’s happening…. the company are bringing in mechanics from the Phillipines.
So where are all the new mechanics of today in Oz?

I think we need a UBI. I think that productivity means people don't HAVE to work, we just pursue economic gain at the altar of the stock market while the world burns. We COULD let people work if they want to, but give everyone enough to live.
Regarding pensioners, my dad makes $400 a week in rent and gets a full pension, they rort the system with ease. The system is punitive to young people, not old

Centrelink exist to deny people support, if they are young. my son was cut off for 6 months. They admitted it was a mistake but would not back pay

Mechanics from the Philippines are cheaper and speak English, and some of them may be better educated and qualified than Australian mechanics. Filipinos will also work in remote rural locations where Australians won't work.
One of the biggest economic problems in Australia is that minimum wages are rising while average wages are not which means the incentive for education and acquisition of skills is decreasing.
