BTW—I have seen some US cars (dash cam videos) in the US on the LEFT side of the road, just like we see more and more on the right (i.e. WRONG) side of the road. Entitled bastards and some plain fuckwits in both cases.

PS: brake checking a semi truck is NOT recommended in either country! And not recommended even in Russia where road rules are just suggestions you know?

What side is 'correct' is solely dependent upon the road rules of the location where you are presently driving.

If you don't know where you are, say if a spaceship just dropped you anywhere on earth at random, if you drove on the right-side of the road you would have a better than ± 70% chance of being right with RIGHT.......

You should drive on the side of the road that is set down by the law in that location. More and more drive on the side NOT mandated for that location, sometimes through stupidity or mistake, sometimes deliberately to save a few seconds. This is becoming too common here and now also in the US.

It's called 'undertaking', the opposite of overtaking.

Long queue of cars waiting to turn at an intersection. Road one lane either way—some entitled arsehole moves into the lane going the other way, passes say half a mile of cars, just to cut in ahead of everybody. Then someone turns into that lane legally, can’t proceed until entitled arsehole can cut into the long queue on the correct side of the road. That is not legal overtaking.

Different states in the US have different names for that. “Failure to Drive to the Right”, Failure to Maintain Lane”, or “Unlawful Passing”.

Entitled arseholes also go into the left or right turn lane, then zoom straight ahead instead of turning, all to get a second further ahead. Madness.

I lived in the USA, Houston Texas for 3.5 years and on one occasion a driver pointed a gun at me at a point in the traffic where two lanes merged into one at a freeway exit with a huge line of cars attempting to exit. He wanted to edge in front of me and I let him.
