I had to go to a useless “make me work ready” thing. Apart from getting me some volunteer work at Marion library it did nothing but I bet they got plenty $$$ nevertheless. Another policy turd from John Fucking Howard! (I was on the Disability Pension because of severe arthritis.)

I had to go do a 'job finders' course many years ago. All we did was pick up the phone book, start at A and send the same letter and resume to each and every listing until morning time, then an hours for morning tea and repeat until lunch ... come back from lunch at about 1 and then repeat the process until about 2.30 where we were allowed to go home . This went on for two weeks before they decided I had sufficient training to help me find a job on my own
it was fucking useless as at that time they had as many people as possible do the very same thing and I think they arranged these courses to start across the state just before the unemployment figures were collected. (technically, if you are doing one of these courses you're weren't listed as 'unemployed'). I'm just glad I didn't have a business listing in the A's at the time

The system clearly is at war with poor people
Anyone newly employed is put on the back burner until they qualify as long term.
The job networks want you to be long term unemployed. They make double the money that way .
