PRIVACY AND SECURITY

@Texan I'm like you. I don't want my personal information doxxed, but I don't fear it either. In my life, I've been shot at, I've been threatened, etc. But the greatest fear I've ever known was having my son in combat overseas. After going through that, doxxing me would be no big deal.

because they're nutcases who have no life of their own so they have to try and get involved in someone else's life
I remember when someone was showing your family photos and I was the first to call him out for it. I'm not saying it's not a problem or that its not wrong. I think it says more about the doxxer than anything. That guy was banned on the other Australian forum I post on as well.

Not me .... You must be referring to Aussies family photos. The idiot trolls have no idea who I am in real life. Not that, I would guess, they haven't tried to find out.

Care to be more specific? Where did that occur, for example?

And that's part of the nuttiness I was referring to. I don't understand why somebody would want to dox somebody. I don't think doxxing is right and I know we have families to protect. I just don't seem to hear doxxing being threatened or discussed on American forums. Maybe our information is more secure here or our laws punish doxxing more. Maybe our self defense laws deter a lot of the doxxing and personal threats. Whatever the case, I'm glad that I am not in a vulnerable place and have to worry about it. I am very honest and so I can't be exposed as a fraud or hypocrite. My kids have grown and I'm about to be single. From a practical standpoint all we can do on any forum is ban any doxxers, unless they break local laws. Then you can send the authorities after them.
Don't call me a nutter bro!

It was a guy who called himself Fisherman i think. He was from some Eastern European country. I agreed with much of his politics, but he was very racist and very abusive and I was put off by that.

Nah. Fisherman was a mistake I made with an invitation I gave him at the Yank Forum to come here. He did, and pretty soon he exposed himself as a total idiot, and he was banned here, and then moved over to Black Orchid's place. He may have passed on personal stuff about me there....but he did not source it. I am certain of that. He was handed information by my doxxer.

Interestingly, I cannot see any of what he posted about this at Black Orchid's Forum. I guess it must have occurred in a sub-forum hidden from public view.

Hmmm if that idiot Booby is elected EL of the board they call “the real PA” then it may be that a fresh wave of doxxing is about to hit with the idiot taking the blame.

Just a thought.

OK, nothing to do with the solar system of OzPol, the Real PA and the sewer.

Phishing.

I had a message on my phone: my ebanking facilities with Bendigo Bank had been restricted.

I could click on a link that LOOKED like it might be the Bendigo bank site (bendigo bank dot com dot au) but isn’t, the website I was so ccordially invited to visit was bendigobank dot HYPHEN com dot au. restore-user.info/

Since I have no account with Bendigo Bank (Bendigo is a largish Victorian country town or city, the bank with that name is a reasonably big secondary bank) I was not in the least tempted to click on the link. Just one tiny hyphen is all that separates a real from a criminal site.

BE CAREFUL ON THE WEB/PHONE!

I used Twitter to alert BB of the scam.

I have had at least three phishing calls about the National Crime Authority wanting to talk to me, just press 1 on your phone. Right, like that is how the NCA (do we have one of those??) would approach someone, pffffft! Two of those were pretending to be some other heavy legal outfit.

I let the message play all the way through but obviously did not click “1” (all the way through to use up computer time of the criminals running these scams.)

The NCA scam call now starts “National Crime Authority, there has been suspicious activity in your account. . .”

I have also received several texts saying “voicemail message received, just click on this link. . .” It is not from Telstra and even if it was from Telstra I would hesitate to click some anonymous link.

Just got another scam call, my internet service will be disconnected within 24 hours because of “suspicious activity” on my service. One little detail was not mentioned—which provider would shut down the service, my ISP or the NBN Co or. . .?
