I respectfully disagree about Antifa. I think, in light of the Capitol violence, that now would be a good time to condemn all politically motivated violence. I hear what you said about the black civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s, but I think we’re at a point in the 21st century where it is no longer necessary to resort to violence in order to be heard. I am not going to agree to a belief that THIS political violence is okay, but THAT political violence is not okay.
I won't rehash our fundamental differences of opinion regarding Antifa. Except, that there was no evidence that Antifa was even involved in setting ablaze a pile of rubbish next to a councilor's home, or smashing windows and attacking the police. They were clearly at the event, where their member was attacked by a pack of cowardly Proud Boys, while standing up in protest against the racist rhetoric of White Nationalists, bigots, White Supremist, Nazis in Portland. I certainly applaud this action in any Century. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1991 were also social changes that came soaked in blood.
But lets make a very basic assumption here. No one is advocating that organized violence, social disobedience and disorder, should be used to affect social change. So, unless you think that Antifa, is simply a band of seditionists, who wake up every morning figuring out what city or cop they will attack next, then their purpose and NOT violence. Their purpose is to fight division, bigotry, hatred and racism. Unlike the civil rights marchers who simply took all the violent beatings, excrements thrown at them, and verbal racial atrocities, that the God-fearing Whites threw at them. Antifa members chose NOT to be this masochistic for their cause. They chose to come prepared to face these same hate groups, whose insidious message of division and hatred IS ONLY THROUGH fear and violence.
Maybe they should just take their lumps, and not sink to the level of these clearly violent anti-social hate groups. Maybe, like in the Civil Rights Movement, it will be the attrition of the dead that will eventually bring about social change.
This always reminds me of the story of the clansmen who burned their crosses outside a Black farmers home. They grabbed the father and began beating him(Arkansas). But every time they stopped, he would just keep saying that, "God will forgive you". Because he would NOT just beg for his life, the cowards left him and his family. I suppose this is one non-violent way to affect social change. But I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a strategy.

The so-called ‘Antifa’ are a radical political movement to combat fascist, alt-right and white supremacist ideologies. And despite criticism, activists say they're not going anywhere

It has always been ironic to me. How can most people who know that it is wrong to incite and disseminate racism, bigotry, elitism, superiority, ethnic division, religious intolerance, and hate, and yet do absolutely nothing about it? But, when a rag-tag group of everyday men and women decide that enough is enough, they are branded by the media as Anarchists, Fascists, Left-Wing Terrorists, and Anti-Americans.
"According to the Southern Poverty Law Centre, almost 900 incidents of anti-black, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-woman, or anti-LGBTQ violence occurred in the week after Donald Trump’s election.".
I think the woman who was shot and killed in the Capitol building put herself in harms way, and she was breaking the law and she was foolish
Totally agree. Trump has created a movement that is bigger than his own ego. This only demonstrates, just how easily people can be manipulated. And, just how irrelevant the facts are.
As for Trump, I only wish for the perfect storm for his legacy. He would be the first President to be impeached twice while still in office. He would be the first President to be impeached, convicted AND forced out of office. And, he would be the first President to actually go to prison, for major fraud and other Federal and State crimes. Do you want to see all the law suits that involve Trump? Good riddance, to bad rubbish!!!
