@johnsmith I think you’re right that the genie is out of the bottle. Australia has imposed more Covid restrictions than most, and it worked to keep your infection rate low compared to other countries. But I think it looks like the virus has spread rather suddenly and may no longer be containable.

The good news is that a high percentage of your population is vaccinated, and I read that some new Covid-specific anti-viral drugs are going to come available in the near future.

That's a yes, and a no! I would ask you why it is a yes, and why doctors still use strong antibiotics to fight viral infections. But, I'm sure you don't have a clue about either! If you did, you wouldn't make such a broad and silly statement. But I will ask, WHY DO YOU THINK ANTIBODIES AREN'T GOING TO HELP?

Allowing any existence of the virus in the wild gives it a chance to mutate. If you could extinguish every bit of it... you prevent the mutation. It's how antibiotics vs bacteria suppose to work, except people don't do it "all the way" and allow bacteria to evolve to super-resistant bacteria.
Now imagine if everyone did vaccinate, and ensured it didn't spread through isolation when you did catch it. No more evolving virus.

You don't need it go down the route where it's like pox into a new discovered continent.
And yep, covid not so deadly - but there are quite a few long-term effects of having it that aren't so pleasant to have. Permanent reduced lung capacity or other stuff like that... no thank you.

yes, I agree ... if it's going to get out it's much better now that the vast majority are vaccinated than it would have been a year or so ago.

only if taken within the first 5 days of catching it ... effective at keeping symptoms mild for about 95% of people (I'm going from memory a story I saw a week ago so if my numbers are off I apologise), if you take it after 5 days it drops to 85% and continues to drop each day after that

The reason I said yes and no, was because NO, antibiotics ARE useless against viruses. But, YES antibiotics are useful in the treatment of infections caused by the virus. Specifically the bacteria. As I stated.

As you know, that when viruses explode cells(lysis), they will cause local infections. These infections will attract different types of opportunistic bacteria. This will cause another immune response, which can also destroy more tissues and cells. Producing more infections. Hence why the need for antibiotics to destroy the bacteria. And the need for immunosuppressant drugs to slowdown the immune responses.

Viral treatments are generally limited to the cell receptor site proteins, or the viral chemical markers. But no treatment is better than our natural immune responses.

Not quite sure what you are saying in the rest of your post, so I won't comment.

because they don't solve everything. Whilst they work at minimizing the severity of covid, they don't stop it completely and some people can still have severe reactions. Especially those with already compromised immune systems. The hospitals can are still being over run just because of the sheer volume of people with covid.

Wait, do you actually think that COVID can be stopped "COMPLETELY?" Like as in the ridiculous, anti-science idea of 'zero COVID?' Are you insane?

We cannot lock down forever because of people with compromised immune systems. If you're not a crazy person, you will agree. Of course, I know that you may well be one of those people with a compromised immune system. If you are, and you think that we should lock down forever to protect you, then you're just a selfish asshole.

The hospitals can are still being over run just because of the sheer volume of people with covid.

we could have limited our exposure to it (athough that jeanie is now out of the bottle now and there's no putting it back). Not indefinitely, but at least up until the scientists can catch up. I think we needed to get to the point where you catch covid and will take a tablet and that'll be it, and we're not quite there yet.

All the eastern states. They're struggling to staff what they have and they cannot keep up with tests etc. They're even having to cancel other essential procedures not covid related because of this.
