(Aust) Magpies befriend a person

One guy on my run sits every afternoon in his garage on a camp chair with a bit of mince, and the magpies and minor birds fly in and eat straight out of his hands. If he misses a day they make a racket until someone shows up

apparently magpies are easy to train to eat from your hand.

Another guy on my run feed wild cockatoos almost daily .... not the smartest move if you ask me, I've seen a flock of cockatoos eat up all the ornate timberwork on a house in just a matter of days. If he stops feeding them for some reason they'll start on his house

Booby had to copy the above video. Guess he gets no response to his ultra–sweet videos so steals videos others put up. Real “christian” real “knight of the round table.”

So no videoa in my board over there, the ones here will be hidden from the thief in the MRB section here..

I grew a heap of sunflowers, kept watering them so the plants grew like 6' high and the flowers close to 1' in diameter. Neighbor said they saw a sulphur crested cockatoo sitting on each flower one day, guess the seeds were at the peak as far as the cockies were concerned.

Liked the video heaps HBS Guy,
humans are basically so deaf and blind to animals because we have been too removed from nature.

I was in Canberra, I think to watch a Labor Budget being handed down (such demand for gallery seats I would have been in one very high up and behind glass so went back to the caravan park and watched it on TV!) and ate a meal at the Parliament House cafeteria, sitting outside on the roof of the House. Suddenly a magpie started warbling from right under my chair! What an experience!

Glad you liked the video! I don’t like the sweet ones or the ones that are supposed to be funny, I like them to have a bit of a point or edge and thought Tex and Seth might like the close up of our magpies other than as swooping attackers!

I used to have a cockatoo ... sunflower seeds made up most of her diet although I'd suppliment that with fruit and my sisters fingers ... after a while, because of all the seeds she dropped on the ground around the cage, I started getting sunflowers growing around her cage ... it was her favourite time of year .

On the farm where i had my horse, Denis, one of the 2 old brothers who ran it would kill a sheep and the gum trees would fill up with Maggies and Kookaburras. He'd butcher it for the dogs and throw little pieces up into the air and the birds would swoop down and catch them on the wing.

You'd see a few take off and almost immediately, all but one would fall back. They could spot immediately who was scoring the morsel.

And Reg the mad dog would run around with the head, charging at everybody and snarling. Fun times.

Sounds fantastic!

Camped on the gemfields (in the rain, dammit!) there was a real progression of birds came visoit our bedraggled campsite. Butcher birds were the boldest and the appearance of “lousy jacks” was met with growns—they turn up in big numbers and discourage the other birds.

Wow, some decent commentis here in contrast to Booby’s moribund board where he copied and pasted the above video. As John said, they can’t hide the blatant stupidity there.
