my son has just figured out that if he goes beyond his allotted game time, he doesn't get to play video games for another week.
I give him a week of before he goes back to his old routine and tries to stretch out his video time by pretending he didn't hear me
On weekends i often throw the kids out of the house. I tell em to hop onto their bikes and not to come home for 2 or 3 hrs minimum. They have an area they're allowed to explore, in which there are 3 parks and school friends, and they are not allowed to go beyond that area. That area is surrounded by main roads which they are not allowed to cross. Inside that area, they are free to, and encouraged to, get up to mischief.
