The Supreme Court on Tuesday night took a step that anti-abortion activists have hoped for, and abortion-rights supporters have feared, since the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg nearly a year ago. By failing to respond to a plea for them to intervene, the justices allowed a Texas law that bans nearly all abortions to go into effect early Wednesday morning. The abortion providers challenging the law say that it will bar at least 85% of abortions in the state and will likely cause many clinics to close. The justices could still act on the providers’ request at any time.

The law bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy – a time when many people do not yet know they are pregnant – and allows private citizens to sue anyone who helps a patient get an abortion. The Texas legislature passed the law as part of an effort to undercut the Supreme Court’s landmark decisions in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which established a constitutional right to have an abortion before the point of fetal viability, generally understood to occur around 24 weeks of pregnancy.......continued

Planned Parenthood lost it's bid when the SCOTUS refused to order an injunction halting the State Law from going into effect.....

For the very first time, regarding so called "Abortion Rights" & Roe, Roe v. Wade has basically been over-ruled/overturned in part by SCOTUS' simple refusal to place an injunction on the State Law, & now...as of yesterday......for the very first time since Roe.......State Law will have precedence over Federal Law regarding abortion.

Chaos and Confusion in Texas as New Abortion Law takes Hold ​

The anti-abortion movement in Texas won a major victory Thursday after a novel legal approach to banning abortion was not blocked by the Supreme Court, throwing abortion services across the state into chaos......

The Supreme Court refused just before midnight Wednesday to block the law prohibiting abortions after cardiac activity is detected — usually about six weeks of pregnancy. Now the measure, which was signed into law in May, will run its course in the lower courts. Its unique legal structure, though, means it will likely remain in effect for the duration of the legal battle.

The law deputizes ordinary citizens to sue anyone who “aids or abets” an abortion, and abortion clinics were bracing for an onslaught of lawsuits. Instead, what seemed to be happening Thursday was near-complete compliance with the law without a single suit yet filed. The largest anti-abortion group in the state, Texas Right to Life, said it had received “a couple of voicemail messages” and some tips on its website that did not pan out. But overall, the movement was pleased that abortions had practically stopped.

“There’s no big smoking gun yet,” said John Seago, legislative director for the group, whose members have been watching for tips. “I have no reason to believe anyone is violating this.”

On Thursday in Texas, that meant a changed landscape for abortion care. Abortion clinics reported dramatic drops in patients on their schedules. And pregnancy crisis centers, where anti-abortion groups offer pregnancy services, reported surges in phone calls and walk-ins. Abortion funds, which help poor women pay for procedures, reported a rise in the number of patients seeking treatment out of state.

The law was novel and its success surprised even some in the anti-abortion movement. Jana Pinson, executive director of the Pregnancy Center of the Coastal Bend, which has four locations in the Corpus Christi area, said her clinics had been “flooded” this week with clients who were confused and sometimes angry. Waiting rooms have been “filled to overflowing” and staff members have been staying late to accommodate requests from women seeking ultrasounds and pregnancy tests.

“I didn’t think it would happen in my lifetime,” she said of the bill’s success.......continued

Let me just ask you 3 questions. And when you become lucid enough to understand the questions, I hope that you will answer.

Is the human heart, cells, lungs, brain, kidneys, bones, prick, fingernails, or liver, sentient(self-aware of itself), or autonomous(self-sufficient outside of the host)? Is a human zygote, embryo, or foetus also sentient and autonomous? I don't think that any of these structures, systems, organs or features are sentient or autonomous without the host. Finally, how do you define life, where there are NO exceptions? And, please don't say the old childish, "not dead". Otherwise, the Coronavirus is not alive.

Human life can be defined as, "..a sentient, self-sustaining chemical system capable of Darwinian evolution.", Any other definitions will only define the features of what life has, or what life does.

Since the human zygote, embryo, or the foetus are NOT autonomous or sentient, then they can't be life as we know it. They are just stages in a developing chemical system, evolving to become a sentient and self-sufficient organism.

Fervently believe whatever you personally wish, but I honestly believe 'Human Life', in terms of a 'beginning', takes place at the point of successful fertilization......period, end of all further discussion regarding the 'beginning of human life'.

To me, IMHO, any point thereafter, destroying that innocent Human Life for no other reason than convenience is murder........that should make it easy for you, & anyone else reading this, to understand. I care not what any scientist on any level of medical profession, or politician, or cleric may use to define the beginning of "Human Life".

I've already open booked my thoughts on both just a few posts up.

I'm also a paid in full, Card Carrying, Lifetime Member of The National Rifle Association, & damn proud of it. When I'm Stateside I usually carry a loaded, concealed firearm.....because I can, & not because I need to. Better to not need to use a gun, but if you have to, it's best have one, loaded & ready.

Also, when I vote in a Local, State, or Federal Election, if a candidate....especially a Judge.....is Conservative, openly Pro-Capital Punishment, & Pro-Second Amendment, they'd get a tic from me over someone who isn't.
