I had son and his wife over for dinner tonight, and I give son this new beer I've never heard of, but since it was included in the coupon special 6 bottles for $10, I thought to give it a go, Furphy Refreshing Ale (made in Shepparaton Victoria!)
And the son asked, after finishing it off and seemingly surprised how he liked it, "Where did you get that beer from?" and I said "Coles supermarket, with the coupon special! Here I have a spare coupon valid till Xmas you can have!"

Anyway, these new beers, never heard of names before, all I recall we used to have was Carlton Draught, Fosters Lager, XXXX, VB, and Melbourne Bitter.

Now, there's all these fancy names, and new pale ale beers which are actually on the rise in popularity.

Not crap at all, I also got 6 bottles James Squire one fifty lashes pale ale for $10 and 10 cans of Strongbow Apple Cider for $10....Coles for specials on your coupons for grog specials (after you shop for food) are really good here!

Knee Deep Brewing Co

Breaking Bud

How can I describe the aroma of the hops? Smells a bit like hay, not citrusy like a lot of other ales lately. Not terribly bitter but you know it is BEER not an alcopop like Bud or VB.

I checked out the Knee Deep website. This is what they say about their Breaking Bud ...

"Old school meets new school in this fresh approach to the classic IPA. At 50 IBU’s and 6.5% ABV, Breaking Bud features the restrained bitterness and alcohol of a classic IPA with newer tropical fruit hop flavors and aromas of Mosaic. Also in the hop mix are Simcoe and CTZ, creating layers of mango, passion fruit, pine and dank. A malt bill with a pinch of crystal malt and a hefty dose of flaked wheat keeps the beer crisp while adding flavor complexity."

That sounds pretty dang good.

So I had two Alaskans to go, the Amber and their flagship "Icy Bay IPA".

The Amber wasn't bad. Brown in color and more to the malty side. Not bad, but just nothing to really write home about either.

The Icy Bay IPA was the best of the group imho. Nice hoppiness in this one. Not overwhelming, but definitely hoppy. Pretty straight forward in that I don't detect any other notes layered into it. I like it but not enough to get me to switch from Deschutes Mirror Pond as my standard "go to" IPA.

My current brew is still fermenting. The tastings along the way have been good.
Lovely soft warm caramel taste without the sugar

The Breaking Bud does not have much of a head and what you get on pouring a glass disappears fairly quickly. A turn off for me.

Need to find a place that stocks international beers. Dan Murphies should stock Sierra Nevada beers.

They don't have Deschutes. Will look for SN next time I'm there.

Try the pale ale, porter and/or stout.

Would leave any IPAs alone for now.

had some Castaway Classic Pear Cider last night. normally I don't drink cider, but they were left overs from a BBQ I had on Saturday. A friend of mine bought them here. Not bad when you're thirsty because you can slam em down fast. They taste like lollie water though.

I'll finish whats left in the fridge but then I'm sticking to beer.

Most ciders and perries are made from eating apples/pears—no bite to them, no guts.

So I had dinner with my buddy at the brew pub in the town next to mine, and I ordered their Coffee Stout.

Oh ...

My ...

God!

It was sooooo delicious! Creamy, rich coffee flavor. Wow!
