Cutting global air travel may be only part of the solution but an individual cap on air travel – that people can trade with each other as they wish – could help reduce the impact flying has on our environment. It’s certainly better than the alternatives – crossing our fingers and hoping people suddenly discover an environmental conscience even if it does mean missing out on that weekend in the sun, or whacking up green taxes in a way that adversely affects less affluent families.

NO this is not fascism. In no sense whatsoever.
To me it makes perfect sense.

You see we are now so affluent (well some of you are) that you can fly around the world being TOURISTS. :stop :stop

The MOST ( almost ) selfish people in the world.

See ..it's capitalism at its worst. Lots of people from affluent societies, burn their way around the world, spewing pollution and filth everywhere they go.
IF.. I ever had enough money to actually go somewhere for fun, I'd make it HERE, in Australia. Why all you folk with more money than sense want to give this bounty away to other countries, beats me. Australia is so huge, you could NEVER see it all.
But no, it's trendy, you can say you've to Machu Pichu, or the Pyramids in Egypt.

FFS.. why? Some sort self-affirmation perhaps.? You're nothing if you haven't cruised to China.?

Sail there, yeah? Free wind power. !!!!

We have the technology to bring places YOU can never go, into our very homes. People that spend hours and hours in front of the TV, still think it's cool to go to Bali. :roll
But no, I suppose it's all about ego, and keeping up with the fuckheads. You know what that makes you, yeah.?

So, why is the customer being told they have a limit they can trade?

Why not just limit travel?

...because they know most people, as you've just described from your personal experience, don't have the money to travel. So why would they set up a trading system that gives the rich people that always travelled the same rights they always had knowing the poor who could never travel will sell their rights for dirt cheap? Doesn't it sound like a system being set up for no particularly good reason??

...too many Indians perhaps???

Hey, I know, get more Government involved because there's no real work around!

**** Fucking Australia! :tweed

I just think people who say we're to fly to the US the go to Disney for the kids are, basically, fuckwits.

People who jet off around the world, because they've too much fucking money... way more money than sense, are fuckwits.

I'm serious. Because you can, you will, without consideration for anything but your own personal pleasure, whatever.!!

The very attitude which has caused the rampant consumerism which has devastated this planet. More, MORE, I want to go to Antarctica.!! FUCKWITS, that's what you are. A poison on the face of the earth.

I think it is time we realised we don't fly above the Earth because we are superior beings, with superior technology.

We do it because we are careless bastards, with no thought to the consequences our perceived WANTS ( not needs) may bring.

Every time I hear some fool on a TV Quiz show, gushing about how they want to go to New York, or Disneyland, or Antarctica, or POLAND, because they haven't been there yet, I feel so ............................ :roll disgusted at their ignorance.

OH well... I suppose... it is all too late now... so you might as well go and spend your money overseas, while you still can. The world is fucked so lets get on with it. The more the merrier.

Yeah lets have more mega-coal mines in Australia, and more Natural gas drilling, and lets rip up TGAB for more oil and gas, and lets dredge the Reef, so the Coal ships can come in and out easily......

Very good pinkeye: I, like everyone else, hear your passion... but this is what NIETZSCHE identified... it's 'the will to power' as opposed to 'the will to live 'that is primary driver of the organism!

We wish to expend our energy I think were the very words he used,... and that leaves us vulnerable :PC

Figures.

Did you know that recently ( :OMG :WTF :huh ) it was advised that 8% of global warming is caused by Aircraft.! :tweed :tweed
:stop :zzzz

I'd suggest that is a serious understatement of fact, and what? they just figured that out.? :jump

JS... it is wrong to fly. Just 'cause you can, and want to. It is the most harmful thing to do, as an individual, a normal individual, to this planet, and the easiest thing to stop.

So STOP. :sad See the sights on your VR tech. Much cheaper, and better for the planet. :sad

Find a better way to what? travel the globe..? we have no need to do this.

need? It's not about a 'need'. I think everyone should travel overseas ... especially the ones whinging that asylum seekers should stay home. Send them into some of the battlefields they call home for a little perspective.

It's an opportunity to See how the rest of the world lives and just how lucky we really are. Overseas travel as well as being educational is also very character forming. Have some border guard point a sub machine gun at you while jabbering away in a foreign language very quickly knocks any superiority complex you might have into perspective.

I'm sure that makes you feel good. I am also sure that travelling to diferent places CAN indeed, promote growth in an individual....
better they sail... now THAT would teach them about life.
A comfy plane ride, a taxi around, maybe a boat ride down the Mekong...
NOT really the real world, friend. LIVE there, if you want to know about the people... tourists impose their own reality.

Feel good yeah, you've trekked thru blah blah... you could learn all the same stuff from the TV.

It is BS to say different. Kids want to live dangerously its true... Adults should know better, unless they're driven by some specific cause. Just cruising around gawking at the poor unfortunates NOT born in Australia? Crass.

Sure it is. You'll find planes, boats and taxi's all within 30mins of where you live. People use the all the time.

pinkeye wrote:LIVE there, if you want to know about the people... tourists impose their own reality.

reality dictates that most people can't take 12 months off at a time to immerse themselves in another countries cultures. Short snap shots is for most people the best they have

A. No you can't

The Uffizi Gallery. Turn from the sculpture of David and there is Birth of Venus by Botticelli.

Sitting in the Vienna Opera House listening and watching The Magic Flute then home by tram in real cold.

Walking to Mad Ludwig’s castle with your feet crunching snow.

Have to be there.

no amount of virtual reality will ever replace actually seeing it for real.
I'd seen many photo's of the statue of david, but none even came close to doing it the justice it deserves. To make stone look so alive is really a lost art form.
