Oh dearie me.
About half an hour ago I fell off a ladder, and landed on my head. :OMG :yellow :jump What a klutz. I have a furry intruder in my roof, and I have opened up the man-hole and positioned a ladder under it, which is in my laundry. I have a light up there which I have been turning on at night to discourage it, and I climb the ladder and stick my head up, wave my torch around as well and tell it to go away this is my house. I don't want to poison it, I want it to fuck off back where it came from. So yeah.. after my last post :roll I heard it and I climbed the ladder without sufficient caution and YEP I fell onto my slate covered concrete. Head first.!

I have a lump the size of a duck egg on my frontal temporal area, just up in the right side hairline.

No blood, I sort of slowed my fall by spreading out my arms,, ( its a narrow space) and some stuff clattered down with me when I hit.
It is a sizeable lump to be sure, and I guess I'm lucky that is a strong part of the skull. I got up after a minute or so, and have been trying to keep the area cool with damp cloths. It sort of hurts, but nothing else seems sore. Just my fucking head.!

Guess I'll find out when I wake up tomorrow(today).

:roll
:grn

take care pink. If you start to feel nausea's, call an ambulance.

well here I am.
One hell of a lump and big black bruise coming up. Everything seems to be working OK, but I did scrape my arm on the edge of the ladder on the way down, so lost some skin, and got a bruise coming up in the middle of my left quad. Must have slowed me down just enough. These are on the left arm and thigh, so I turned as I fell and landed on my right side head, :roll Unbelievable

Amazes me how I'm not more hurt , I was somewhat shocked I suppose.. No blurry vision or wooziness just a fucking big bruise. And swelling.. there is some fluid buildup on that right temple BUT.. it'll go away. :roll

Considering some of the falls I have had over the last twenty years I'm lucky I'm here. One horse nearly killed me twice.. ( not even my own frikkin animal) …. just luck again....

BUT.. this one , and that other one last yr when I cracked my humerus and mashed one of my major arm muscles..but luckily not my skull, really were potentially deadly. I think some very basic stuff I learned when I did Ju Jutsu for a few yrs .. falling hard on hard surfaces has resulted in an instinctive attempt to break that fall by landing on my side. :bgrin
I have seriously fallen off a chair that buckled while I was standing on it ( cheap plastic Bunnings) reaching way up over my head to hook up a blind.. I was even holding a long stick to give me extra reach.. I landed on assorted concrete tiles and dirt ( it was outside) I got up withoit more than a scrape.. BUT my neighbour's kids must have been watching, because when I fell I heard them scream out DAD!!
But then they saw me get up. :bgrin

So yeah I'm not as young as I used to be....

No I must REMEMBER NOT to take on more than I should. I'm thinking I should get some help. I'll have to ask for assistance from a religious-backed mob... they're a Catholic organisation, in more ways than one, and have helped me in the past .
My only friendly neighbour has a very unfriendly wife. :roll
It's just with all the fires and then the virus .. I figure others need it more than me. But maybe not.

So thanks all for the advice and concern...

Pinky! Remember what happened to Molly Meldrum!
He had it bad when he fell off a ladder.
Maybe you were somewhat luckier not as bad as he.

Get well soon.

How are you going to get that possum out of your roof space? Exterminator?

Please do not get up on a ladder again—the optometrist I used for years, younger than me, fell off a ladder and killed himself. For myself, the only time I would get on a ladder is inside where the floor is hard and level and I only need to get up a couple steps to change a lightbulb. And I would go up and down the ladder very slowly and carefully.

Thanks for the Link Aussie. I have had help previously from a community care org. They know me. Thanks HBS Guy.

Actually, believe it or not, I got a phone call early last week from my local State MP Linus Power. Labor.
He asked if it was me identified himself, said he was calling to check on my well-being given Covid-19. and asked me how I was ?

Now that was a surprise . I talked with him for a while ( can you imagine? :bgrin ) and he said that if I had any issues I could call him.
Wow. Then late last week Thursday I missed a call from Centacare, the people I mentioned I'd used earlier. She left a message, saying much the same. I did leave her a message in reply, but then she called again while I was driving, and by the time I'd pulled over and found my phone ..she'd gone.. Another message... I will call them tomorrow.

They send out people to help , and up to a certain amount their labour is free ..you only pay for parts, if nec.
Strangely enough, as I mentioned before it is a Catholic organisation. I just picked their number by chance one day when I really needed a hand, and they have been really amazing.

I am an equal opportunity atheist. :bgrin

Oh , and I am now sporting a rather grotesques half blackeye.
The outer edge looks very Egyptian, whilst below the trail for tears is black as , and swollen. :OMG

I'm OK.. I don't look it though. The upper right side of my face cheekbone temple and above has minor swelling..The site of the lump is black and quite swollen UMM it's going to take a while.

I am quite sure I can only rest and it will all settle. Just wish I had a gel mask I could use to cool it. I umm have basically been ignoring it..today um yeah apart from taking care with certain actions... and staring at the fucking mess . I daresay tomorrow I will start to see
some visible signs of healing.

So YEAH I really must stop doing things like that.!

Update on my knee

Went to the hospital so the surgeon could see the progress on my knee. Good news is that I finally got that damn brace off and knee is mending nicely. The bad news is that I can't go to work for at least another 6 weeks. I'll also need some pysio in the meantime

Damn doctors.
Pre surgery, I was told that with recovery it would take 3 to 6 weeks before I could go back to work
Post surgery they said I would need to wear the brace for a minimum of 6 weeks so no work for 6 weeks at least
Now 6 weeks post op, they're telling me another 6 weeks for physio to allow the repair to strengthen before I can carry anything heavy ( an unavoidable part of my job).
The way they were talking, it sounds like 3 months to full recovery is the norm for this sort of injury.

Why then did the wankers not say that in the beginning? I've had to change the story with my boss several times already ... he won't be happy when I call him with the latest update. :mad

That seems to be common: the lady who supervises Mums showers 3 days a week went off to have a knee operation. Eight weeks and she can return to work she was told. More like 13 weeks.

I don't understand why. My surgeon specialises in knees and has been doing so for years. He must know recovery will most likely take 3 months. Just say so and stop playing damn games

With my hip operation they gave accurate information and in fact I was driving for a week before the return appointment.

I did a lot of walking, starting the day after the operation—physio asked if I could get out of bed. Remembering advice to throw myself into the physio schedule I got out of bed. She asked if I could walk—I took a couple of steps. None of that easy, pain despite the Endones. Got bored so did walking in the hospital, very long passage, couple hundred metres. Some bastard went outside but closed the door in my face—would have loved to go outside! Prick! No way I could handle a door and zimmer frame.

Did lots of walking—the length of the Torrens Linear Park, from the beach to the Gorge aquaduct and weir–in 6Km stages. Well ahead of others not doing as much walking.

keep calm and carry on
I admired the Queen's speech on VE Day. What an amazing woman.!

Now I am feeling a bit better, and I have a full -blown black eye ,, and even bruising coming up under my left eye. That is good apparently.

My friendly neighbour happened to be home early this arvo, and his missus wasn't due for an hr or so, so when he heard what I was saying,,..( He lives across the road), hopped the fence and saw me, and I told him what had happened he said I'll come down now and put the rat-bait in the roof.. if you'd like..??

You know.? I didn't want to poison it, BUT I said OK thanks that's probably a good idea.

(he was explaining to me that RATS are hard to move once they have a patch sorted. They bring in their friends, and you end up with a 5-yr cycle... before they are wiped out) So far I think there is only one, or possibly two.
Last yr was the first yr they appeared, and altho my dog killed one, outside, the other one made merry... so Yes my friendly neighbour did the job... last year as well. :bgrin

I have a corrugated roof and he reckons they've found a gap where the curve is highest, and have squeezed in. But he checked and couldn't see anywhere obvious.

I think Should turn the light on again in the roof.. turn off other lights, go outside in the dark and see if I can spot any light .. like a gap yeah..??

Oh shit, the only thing is I'll have to open up the man hole again to get the lead down and plugged in, and that means .. LADDER.!
No I'm not going to do that.. well at least not now. The critter was much in evidence later this evening, I hope it goes away now. It has had time to eat the bait. :sad

I rang the centacare people this am... someone will come out Wed to assess , whatever.. but my funds are limited apparently... Last sept when I had my water tank leaking,, used up a fair bit.
Take it a day at a time.

Mate... I understand what you're saying. My best friend .. we speak on the phone mostly, after hearing me out, and seeing some photos I took, said,... OH and I don't suppose you called an ambo, went to the Dr..?? Nope I said. I explained I'd gotten on HERE, afterwards, and what was said, and she said well at least you're not concussed.. :roll

I well remember being headbutted by a certain person, in roughly the same part of my head, and I literally saw stars, and my legs buckled.
The head knock was severe obviously, but no stars..tho .. can't say I have had a black eye before.. the swelling is slowly reducing and it is external. I have no doubt..I will be fine.. Humans are incredibly tough to kill... mostly.

and Monk...?

If I go to my local GP about this they'll send me to Accident&Emergency Dept for an x-ray... SO?

I have to say, the last time when I broke my arm? they said Go to the Hospital A&E .. they referred me for X-ray.

It WAS AN AWFUL experience for me.
First time...…. waiting waiting broken arm, sick people all around me, some crying in pain, and we all just SAT THERE WAITING. 6 fucking hrs I sat there, it really did my head in. All those poor sick people, so dehumanised, just sitting waiting... I've been pretty healthy all my life, and that six hours in the emergency department made me absolutely determined that I'd never go there again , willingly.

Simply NOT on.

Would be keeping any appointment cards or session reports, if any. All x-ray reports , and ask your GP for a document outlining the facts.. injury, treatment, progress to date, and prognosis.

Yes.. that's what I did for the broken arm.
I was told to go get an Xray at a Xray place, then,, don't come back here if there is an issue , take the Xrays and go straight to the hospital.
I had to wheedle the info out of the counter officer at the X-ray place. I told her the doc had said to save myself extra time, if there's a break etc.. she looked at me,, and I looked at her and she nodded, yeah.......I do not have private health insurance soo...
so I arrived at A & E at just before midday.

SIX hours waiting for attendance is apparently not unusual. ! I REALLY found it , in itself , a very disturbing experience. Guess I'm lucky I hadn't been there earlier in life. I mean I have had my fair share of injuries over the years.. but ALL soft-tissue damage until I passed 60. Now.. oh dear :OMG I'm an old lady. !

I have been to the same doctors for years / actually decades now.. to keep continuity.
I am NOT on the myhealth system.. nor the Covid-19 app...

I ordered an inexpensive trail camera today. I plan to set it up to watch the garden in our front yard. I hope to get some pictures of the wildlife around here and show them to you all.
