We see that 2017 is still the second hottest year, quite amazing considering 2014, 2015 and 2016 were progressively record hot years and 2016 was an El Nino year and 2017 isn’t. Normally there is a drop in temperatures in the year after an El Nino year as the peak declines. Not in 2017 to any noticeable extent.
Have a look at the graph. You see clearly that global temperatures are increasing. A closer look shows it is not a smooth increase, cooler years still sometimes happen years after the temperature has shifted up. The weather record is incredibly noisy. However, the trend is for inexorable temperature increases.
