Happy Christmass and New Year

Postby HBS Guy » 22 Dec 2017, 11:37

I don’t believe in Christmas, of course.

I really wish everybody here a pleasant day with both close and extended family and friends. I do love christmas day, sitting around chatting, kids alternatively screaming in joy or crying then the giving out of presents—which I don’t do, not for many years preferring to help when something is needed—and the joy on kids faces.

Then the big lunch, dinner really I suppose. Great when the food I cooked is appreciated and disappears rapidly. Oh yeah, need to make a nice jelly tomorrow for my great nephews and nieces, find my jellies book and make a shopping list.

Hope you all have a great day on the 25th.

Apparently, according to said Grandson, it's a 'digger.'

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope it's a good one.

Yes....and when he builds it.....talk to me. I know the mistake I made on the first build. That mistake meant that one of the functions of the digging thing at the back did not work because a cog fell out of place at a vital 'merging' moment.

This:

It's pretty good, as kids just love that when you twiggle this, that thing over there does that, etc. There's lots of functions.

therein lies your mistake.

I don't build them for my kids .... are you mad? it keeps them occupied for hours. That's hours of peace and quiet for me. Why would i deny myself that?

Of course not!

But, this particular Grandkid hates building them, just loves playing with them. It's a win/win. I enjoy doing the build, but it does shit me when I stuff up, and that is often, and so I have to pull it apart, and re-build.

I think Grandpop just loves fiddling with the stuff and makes deliberate errors so he can keep playing with it

one of the best things about being a dad of young kids is being able to play with all those toys that were for so long no longer 'appropriate' to play with. I always make sure that when I buy my kids outdoor equipment like scooters etc, they're all 100 kg rating.

....and then you get to do it all again with Grandkids....except then.......you can be very irresponsible about it!

For example...eldest Grandson is 13 and is getting a thing about knives.....Bowie type stuff. So......Donnie Darko (ask Monk...DD is my Son) has approved my giving him a proper 'pro throw' balanced knife. What DD does not know..... :bgrin ...... is that I'm adding my Old Man's .303 WW2 bayonet!! (I did clean all the blood off, of course..........I'm considerate with things like that. :giggle )

So, Dad is back to his childhood and Grandpop is putting his grandson’s life in danger.

Nah....he'll be okay. His Sister could be in strife!

(Not at all. Unlike his Grand Father, DD Jnr Burger has his head screwed on right.)

Doesn’t mean they get $250 of course. Old enough and significant enough now to be worth something though.

Yes....and this thing is engraved with that 1907 year mark. Like I said....his gain, and I will explain its significance to him. Could even embellish with tales of enemy blokes being personally skewered with the thing by Great Grandpa in the jungles of WW2 Bougainville!

Just finished wrapping the pressies. Have convinced my little guy that he's not getting anything this year besides some steam games that we'll buy when he finishes doing his chores. Told him all the pressies were for his sister. They're not, of course.

He's spent the last two days trying to catch me out. I've been merciless in my evasion. I actually heard him muttering something about depression as he walked down the hall.

I'm starting to feel really mean but he is making me twist the knife. It's not my fault. Really it's not.

Dog was happy this evening: instead of 100g of chicken necks she got 200g of chicken mince with an egg beaten through it, more than 2 days normal rations. :jump

Hope the kids like the jellies tomorrow: all real fruit, tiny bit sugar, bit of spice (cinnamon and cardamom.) No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Once my joints stop complaining—some adult jellies, including a few with booze in them.
