New IPCC report

Postby HBS Guy » 28 Jun 2018, 21:48

In Oct.

Leaked drafts talk of 2°C being so much worse than 1.5°C hotter, many more ice free Arctic summers and so on. Ice free Arctic will cause extreme weather in middle latitudes.

Land transport is transitioning to electric vehicles, renewable energy has cost advantages over fossil fuels—nuclear should be playing a boigger role—but buildings are ripe for improvement re energy efficiency.

Been reading a bit about building. New products like hempcrete. Also—use double-width studs and fill the big cavity with insulation. Other things to do with commercial buildings.

Any talk of 2 C being more likely than it was before or does it have no opinion that?

Govts are not doing nearly enough to make a difference.

Renewable energy and nuclear energy, phase out coal/gas.

Incentivise people to get rid of ICE, go for EVs.

Revise building rules, energy efficiency etc.

No, dear monk, are there any answers to my question of whether the 2C is under more threat than it was previously?

Um, that is is dodging the answer!

I don't mean to be rude of course.... but this is the whole reason denialism is so easy to spread: because propaganda flows both ways and a weakness in one camp leads to the strength of the other!

It's all a numbers game... the rich will always over power the oppressed: it is Hollwwoods only script don't cha know!

Today it's all about ownership of internet address space... there is nothing new under the sun!

The Paris Accord is just window dressing, our last best chance.

I think 2°C warming IS more likely now.

Why do you think I am moving to Tassie?

Leaving rest of family in SA, nope. I want to escape the heat that increasingly is becoming humid heat and also leave the big noisy city for a country town.

The second half of your sentence betrays your climate change idea.

My auntie and uncle moved their to escape ISIS,... the first half of their EXCUSE was also climate change of course. I just think they're in love, personally.

Good on 'em!

:bgrin

My Auntie was always single but apparently she was married before I really knew anything. So this is her second marriage... She just retired and that's how she chose to keep things interesting I suppose.

Yes, I have two motives for moving. Where I am is a nice place with all services needed, the big smoke not that far away but far enough.

In Adelaide nearly all of January is now hot AND humid. Queensland weather. Not for me!

So pollution and climate change then.... atleast you're honest with yourself!

I gather the first point is more about a lifestyle change of course!!

Mainly it is moving to escape high and humid heat.

Traffic in Adelaide is crazy, 8.00am Sunday is like peak hour used to be!

What? Everyone trying to get to the garage sales first.?

Good grief. I'm much in favour of long snoozing in, everyday, where possible. :bgrin

Do it while the weather allows... 'cos you're right Monk, QLD humid heat is a real puddle... phew. But winter here is magic.

Cool enough where I am to enable a lovely long snooooooooze.

“The Ransom of Red Chief.”

an OHenry story.

Summary. Two small-time criminals, Bill and Sam, kidnap Johnny, the 10-year-old red-haired son of an important citizen named Ebenezer Dorset, and hold him for ransom.
