The circumpolar current used to protect Antarctic sea/land ice but warm water is reaching parts of the continent. The Larsen C ice shelf that had a big bit break off—it was thinned above by warm air and below by warm waters.

The Totten Glacier in East Antarctica has thinned on the bottom side way back into the continent because of plumes of warm water reaching it.
