How AGW created conditions for the California wildfires

For scientific papers on AGW, record happenings in the Arctic and the Greenland, Himalayan and Antarctic icesheets. Also weatherstorms and higher than average rainfalls and other extreme weather events.

How AGW created conditions for the California wildfires

Add to the increase in hot years the rain that saw profuse vegetation grow, die back and dry out, providing fuel for the fires. Also the winds that blow in CA pushed the fires along at breakneck speed.

Will cover all that in more detail later today. Lessons for Australia in there.

Big fires coincide with hot years. Not a surprising correlation but one that needs to be made.

Wild/bush fires will get worse because of extreme heat and because the longer fire season makes fuel reduction burns harder to achieve. Some of the worst fires (e.g. Canberra) were fuel reduction burns that flared out of control. Guess other ways of reducing fuel load need to be found.

Work for the dole? Real work of vital importance and training in forestry etc can be offered. Real public service. 10,000 people going through a forest removing timber, hacking backundergrowth.

Dunno. Is important a non–fire way to reduce fuel for bushfires is found.
