Consequences of AGW

Let us record here scientific papers on AGW, record happenings in the Arctic, Greenland, the Himalayan ice sheet and Antarctica. Also weatherstorms and higher than average rainfalls

Consequences of AGW

For one, the US military is having to make large commitments to deal with the results of AGW: flooding from rain as hurricanes get fed with more energy and more moisture from warmer seas, flooding by sea as sea levels keep rising, the damage from ever fiercer winds. Food production might also be affected: flooding destroying crops, etc.

The threat to coral reefs:

While “coral nurseries” can help restock reefs with new coral it can’t keep pace with increases to ocean temperatures caused by AGW.

Wildfires. As the world warms the dry seasons get hotter and wildfires get bigger and more destructive and wildfire seasons get longer.

On the east coast of the US, the Georgia–Florida are a wildfire has burned for over a year. On the west coast there have been huge wildfires—and wildfires are still burning!

Los Angeles is really copping it with nasty wildfires at the moment.

15 people killed in the northern Californinian wildfires. The fires are in the Napa Valley, winemaking country. As the firemen say, the summers are longer, i.e. the wildfire season is longer just like the bushfire season here is longer. The longer season makes fuel reduction burns difficult—a number of recent bushfires were fuel reduction burns that got out of control.

Most of the fires were caused by arsonists, as they are here. In Adelaide on bushfire danger days the cops visit known arsonists and tell them they are being watched and not to go to the Hills are where the forests are. Works well but if a fire does start the heat and tinder dry dead grass etc sees the fire race out of control.

The world is warming and longer wildfire seasons and bigger, more dangerous fires is one inevitable result.

Seven numbers that describe the Californian fires:

Many wildfires burning out of control on the US and Canadian west coast.

Just like the southern half of Australia it seems the northwest part of the US is also warming and drying out.

Tropical Cyclone/Hurricane Ophelia is causing concern to climatologists:

Before being downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone, Ophelia was a Category 3 hurricane on Saturday and Sunday. It went farther east than any other previously recorded Category 3 hurricane in the Atlantic Basin and broke a record set in 1980.

“As sea surface temperatures continue to warm, the region of the Atlantic Ocean that can support the genesis and strengthening of tropical storms and hurricanes is expanding eastward,” said Michael Mann, a distinguished professor of atmospheric science and the director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University.

Hurricanes are not only reaching much farther to the east, but they’re forming farther east as well, Mann noted. Hurricane Irma, which devastated parts of the Caribbean and the southeastern United States last month, was the strongest hurricane to ever form as far east in the Atlantic as it did, he said.

Mann is not the only one:
Kevin Trenberth, a distinguished senior scientist in the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, said it’s not unprecedented for an Atlantic storm to affect Europe ― it happens “every 3 or 4 years or so,” he said ― but added that there is “an unusual aspect to this.”

The storm’s eastward reach also coincides with another record, Trenberth said.

“[S]torms forming farther to the east and becoming strong is a sign of warmer oceans, and this year has seen the highest upper ocean heat content on record in the tropical Atlantic.”

Just like Hurricane Sandy that hit and flooded New York was energised along its track north in the Atlantic by high sea surface temperatures now higher temperatures in the east Atlantic are sending hurricanes further east.[/quote]

Even liar Dubyne gets in on the act—and accidentally implicitly confirms heating of Atlantic waters, not something he meant to do, the dickhead. So ignorant yet Booby sends him money and believes all the lies he tells in his ridiculous videos!

Hurricane Ophellia somehow has pulled Saharan dust from the western edges of the African continent in a strange N-S wind pattern. The flow is usually from west Africa to eastern coast of N. America.

Not linking to the liar! “somehow” “strange N-S wind pattern” are the liar avoiding mentioning that high Atlantic sea surface temperatures caused Ophelia to form much further east than normal, i.e. that the globe is warming not cooling and AGW is real as we know, from measurements of thermal IR being blocked by GHGs from escaping to space meaning the IR warms the lower atmosphere and the surface.

The sandstorm (not really as Dubyne says, more a layer of dust brought down by rain, the water evaporates leaving the dust, on cars most noticeably) was brought to the UK by TC Ophelia.

The winds bringing the dust from the Sahara to Europe and the UK were part of TC Ophelia which started from and travelled further east than other hurricanes. And that was due to high Atlantic sea surface temperatures! So Dubyne just confirmed AGW is happening! :roll :rofl :rofl :rofl

Dubyne also crapped on about crop losses, take these with a grain or truckload of salt. But with a succession of hurricanes, fed by warmer and warmer Atlantic sea surface temperatures what else do you expect? But crop losses, mostly imaginary, are a constant theme of the Dubyne videos obviously to scare the brain damaged followers into buying the “survival food” Dubyne pushes. An attempt to get the cretins to buy Bitcoin backfired: if there is a huge calamity like you are saying how can we access our Bitcoins? was the response. Dubyne is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

The idiot Monckton too has shown that AGW is real (not that he meant to do that:)

The prediction according to Monckton

I have checked the IPCC’s First Assessment Report from 1990 which predicted global warming of about 1.1ºC between 1990 and 2030.

It clearly predicts an increase of 0.3ºC per decade (with an uncertainty range of up to 0.5 degrees per century) which would give an increase of 3ºC in a century – not 4.2ºC.

In Monckton’s time frame of 16 years from 2,000, the figure of 0.3ºC per decade equates to a predicted increase of 0.48 degrees.

The actual increase, according to science

So Monckton’s figure of 0.47ºC as the “observed reality” would show the scientific predictions to be one-hundredth of a degree out after nearly 16 years — an amazing feat.

Far from proving climate science wrong, it would appear at first glance he has proved it to be extremely accurate.

But this figure is not “observed reality”. It is the result of his mathematical prestidigitation, which involves averaging monthly satellite readings and determining the “least-squares linear-regression trend on their mean”.

(And, yes, you’re right, it’s usually the climate change deniers who allege that scientists mess with figures!)

https://independentaustralia.net/environment/environment-display/climate-change-denier-monckton-accidentally-proves-earth-is-warming,10828

I think it is only complete idiots like the brain damaged juliar on OzPol still believe in Teh Pause. This hurricane season (not over yet) has blown apart AGW denialism. Funny that Dubyne has not mentioned Ophelia :rofl :rofl :rofl

Watch WattsUp and JoNova further retreat their denialism.
