The area was on FTTH, just not the street where the woman bought her home. If Libs had kept ramping up FTTH rollout would have been no problem!

FINALLY! The NBN gets a mention in the campaign! Onya Tanya!

She’s keen to talk about what she reckons could be the sleeper issue of the election campaign, certainly one that she says is gaining traction in her own seat.
Frustration, she says, is mounting about the slowing of internet speeds as the telecommunications network gets overloaded as households’ consumption of data rises dramatically. Dubbed the “Netflix effect”, the amount of data sucked through the copper-based cable network, much of it driven by streaming services such as Netflix and Stan, has doubled in the past year or so, and continues to rise at record rates.
“It’s huge, it’s a very big issue in my electorate,” she says. “There is the typical domestic user who is irritated but I’ve also got the creative start-up businesses, people who work from home … They rely on a really good internet connection to be able to do business with the world. The operate globally and they need to send very big files.”

Woooo! Oakeshott has nominated for Cowper!

Bet he will win it too! A lot of Cowper is former Oakeshott heartland. Like Windsor he will guarantee not to be part of a minority govt which should please those upset when they agreed to support the best govt in a long time, the Gillard govt.

I loved all the hooha about Rob talking for 17 minutes explaining what decision he had reached and why. Should not politicians explain themselves?

Oh dear {chortle} Green fanbois were so cock-a-hoop thinking DiNatale had stitched up a deal with Truffles. {oops!}

Today we learn that Labor will preference the Libs ahead of Nats in 3 (Vic, I think) seats and Libs will pref Labor above Greens in every seat.

Had a bit of fun with that on Twitter today.

Twice as many Australians would get faster fibre-to-the-home internet connections under a future Shorten government, but the rollout of the NBN would cost taxpayers at most only $1 billion more and would be completed in the same time, Labor says.

In a pitch to younger voters, universities and businesses that rely on fast internet speeds for e-commerce, Labor will on Monday promise a move away from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s cut-price part-copper national broadband network and to connect an extra 2 million homes and businesses by June 2022.

Sounds good!

Great comment to above:

Shorten is incorrect – the worst part *is not* the speed and poor performance people have been stuck with. The worst part is the financial sabotage, which has cost the budget and tax payers $56bn, $30-40bn of which is already sunk costs due to infrastructure delivered or contracted. It is the financial sabotage that means we can’t just scrap the HFC and FTTN and build out FTTP from day one – as bad as the speed issues are, the fact that we can’t *fix it* is the travesty, and really what Labor should at least mention if not capitalise on. Polling shows the economy is the biggest issue for voters, with the NBN only ‘important’ for something like 8% of the electorate. Stop going softly softly on the economicseconomics, Labor – the financial sabotage was deliberate and calculated, the LNP and Turnbull in particular need to be held to account, and it’s a vote winner for you.

For context, a comment by “Snow Crash” an Ozzy living in the US and now a naturalised US citizen back here for a little while:
Snow Crash 13/06/2016 at 12:38 pm
AT&T is outstripping Goggle(sic) Fiber.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2015/12/09/why-att-is-out-building-google-fiber/?postshare=8441465613931222&tid=ss_tw

AT&T, among several other telcos, petitioned the FCC in 2012 to say goodbye to the outdated telephone system. The FCC’s “IP Transition” regulations has been implemented to remove the legacy telephone system and go 100% IP.

At the last count about 40 telcos in the United States are deploying FTTP. It is not just limited to AT&T, Verizon, CenturyLink & Comcast

The $350 billion U.S. National Broadband Plan is being implemented

Nice context!

Renai thinks Labor’s plan is “pitch perfect:”

Excellent!

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has called for the auditor-general to investigate the Liberal Party’s Parakeelia “scam” as a matter of urgency.

Mr Shorten said it looked like a “Liberal Party washing machine” turning taxpayer dollars into party profits.

He said he had asked opposition special minister of state Mark Dreyfus to write to the auditor-general seeking an investigation.

Such a great leader is DiNatali. Rapidly blinking eyes show he is lying:

Richard Di Natale will not intervene in the NSW Greens’ decision to preference Reverend Fred Nile above the Liberal Party’s gay, Indigenous candidate for Sydney, saying the Greens were sending a message about the Coalition’s “divisive and hateful plebiscite” on same sex marriage.
Greens supporters and many other left-leaning voters are outraged at the Greens’ decision to place a party whose leader considers homosexuality a “mental disorder” higher on the party’s how-to-vote card than Geoffrey Winters, the 27 year-old gay lawyer representing the Liberals
