It is fibre to the street, coax to the house.

Seems fine

give it a few weeks. I waited 30 seconds for this page to flip. It was quicker when I was on ADSL ... nd my modem has wireless backup :grn

What speed are you paying for?
I am still on my old plan, so will research and change that in the future

I'm on telstra Tier 50, $99 unlimited plan

https://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/nbn/plans-bundles?tc=G%7cS%7cD%7cTP%7cTNBN%7cSitelink%7cNBNPlans&sacid=71700000020498991&sakwid=p17933529561&sac=GG:DSK:Telstra+-+NBN+-+Brand+-+Head+Term+-+Exact&ds_rl=1238002&ds_rl=1238035&ds_rl=1238044&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1oy19-6-4AIVi6qWCh3soQYDEAAYASABEgKf_PD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#24-months

When it's good it's good enough for my needs. The problem is that it's no good just as often as it is good and half the time I end up on telstra's wireless network, which is much slower.

Thanks John,
I am just looking into it.
Will run on our existing plan for the time being

Do you think another provider will be any better?

https://www.canstarblue.com.au/internet/nbn-providers/

internode, myrepublic, TPG, iprimus, iinet all rate well

Will research it, see what suits us

I doubt the other providers will be much better. The problem is not Telstra. It's the NBN. It can't handle to many people all on at the same time, that's why it slows down at peak periods. Adverse weather can also affect it. When we've had lots of rain, people are bored and more likely to surf the net, watch streamed movies etc that's also the time it's most likely to play up. The heat can also affect it. Those NBN cabinets need to be maintained.

They should have left it all with FTH. It requires little maintenance, it's not as easily affected by weather, much faster and can handle a whole lot more volume. 20 yrs ago a 500mg file was huge. These days we're up to 5Gb plus for high definition movies, in twenty years time we'll be moving files of 200 - 300 t and the coax simply won't be able to handle it. Sure FTH may have cost a little more now, but it would have seen us through for another 50 years at least. Now because of all the changes midstream, this mixed technology crap has cost just as much, and we'll need to do it again sooner rather than later. Short term thinking for political gain.
