It could change if a party gets in power who campaigns on a platform to allow States to levy income tax.

If the policy were to impose a 20% tax on incomes over $40k at the federal level, then the States could make up the rest, or not even impose taxes. This is a policy based on small government.

The States could levy an additional 1 - 5% percent on top of the federal level, which would be 25%, still much lower than the total tax payable. Some States could have more, others could have less.

Why not just privatize government and out source it?

Every three years it goes to public tender and we can elect which overseas government gets the job ?

Wishful thinking ... No fed govt. is ever going to take taxes away from the feds.

If you vote for the Conservatives, it's their policy. Other Libertarian parties would have the same policy.

The reason why it's never been done is because Labor and Liberal don't want to do it. The two parties aren't driven by ideology (but Labor is more so than the Liberals). It's about politics for the two major parties.

Singapore is so well run that they won’t give military service exemptions to people with mental illnesses.
