Mr Brough, a former Howard government minister who is seeking to return to parliament in a Queensland seat, has also defended his colleague, telling the ABC “Mr Hockey had nothing to do with it.”

So on Wed Jun 12, 2013 at 10:44am AEST Mr Brough knew, “Mr Hockey had nothing to do with it.”

If the restaurant owner did not communicate with anyone about it until late on that afternoon, how did Mr Brough know that “Mr Hockey had nothing to do with it.”?

Please explain.

The coverup should unravel nicely today.

David Donovan David Donovan ‏@davrosz
At Brough’s office today what struck me was the $$$. Brough hasn’t worked in years but he has an office, FT staff, cars, billboards… (1/2)

David Donovan ‏@davrosz 1m
(1/2) There’s serious money behind Brough. Someone REALLY wants him elected. And he’s clearly being protected. Why is his election so vital?

Brough was a very ordinary Minister, suffered the biggest swing in the 2007 election due to his arrogance, there were allegations he used money from the Aboriginal Affairs part of his Dept to throw a big party for whites, etc. Not much of a career in the army either. Menugate shows how ordinary he is.

So why is he being funded so lavishly in a seat where the Libs could put up a donkey and it would be voted in? Who is providing the money?

Abbott:

Mr. Abbott called that insulting, obscene and sexist description of Australia's Prime Minister the jokethat was out of line.

A joke?

Was he at that fundraiser? $1000-a-plate dinner and LOTO not there? Doesn’t seem likely, does it?

Abbott denies menu made it out of the kitchen. His office prepared letter from restauranteur!

If it didn’t make it out the kitchen how did it get to be leaked?

Latika is obviously as bemused as the rest of us.

“@latikambourke: So if the menu was NEVER seen by anyone at that event and was kept to just the staff why would Mal Brough admit association w. fundraiser?”

“@latikambourke: If it was just kept to Father and son and the staff member, how could Mal Brough have known about it to admit to it yesterday when we spoke?”

Coverup is where you trip up!

I heard on the ABC news this morning that the menu was generated for the lolz, but one of the staff from the restaurant got a copy and posted it to their facebook, from which it got to the press. Sounds about as plausible as anything that a politician would say.

ABC in full arsecovering mode for the LNP. Meanwhile:

@geeksrulz @sunriseon7 asked staff in the restaurant this morning if they remembered seeing the menu. Apparently they saw it “on the tables”

It is the coverup trips you up.

2 more versions on ABC24 so far.

This is interesting:

I wonder if bullying and intimidation is a regular LNP tactic, or if I just got a random whack job last night?

Tony Abbott WAS in Brisbane, March 28th, 2013.

And he was with Joe Hockey.

Was in Brissy, was with Hockey, beggars belief he didn’t attend that dinner and didn’t see that menu.

This is starting to look interesting...

None have expressed disgust at seeing the menu at the time, only condemnation in retrospect. Mr Abbott could have had taken a high moral ground here;

Why didn't he?

Maybe he was adjusting the hands on his clock...

It only takes one squealer to bring this into the LNP election battle.

With a contrary witness, I'd say that squealer may turn out to be Mr Brough. He still has to face court and being a dubious witness on dinner parties, his examination may actually be worse for him than losing pre-selection. At present he is in a position of lose-lose.

The restauranteur is in a position of extremely dubious now exascerbated by the admission from staff.

A fair work call in at the least.

Yep, whoppers, double whoppers and whoppers with cheese have taken the menu over...
Don't worry, God already saw you on the toilet

Said admission not confirmed—Dick reckons he didn’t lose any staff. Good enough to keep the issue simmering—Brough is such a clown it is no wonder he is the only candidate in the poop! Why on earth do the LNP want him so badly?

Hmmm, for Abbott (and Brough was a “captain’s pick”) Brough is both a Howardista bit of flotsam and the only perhaps young enough (and, to Abbott, shiny enough) to outcompete Turncoat to be the natural replacement for Abbott himself. Just like Howard promoted Abbott to senior cabinet posts (and had to pull him out of messes he created, not just RU486 either) to be a competitor to Costello so they fought between themselves and left Howard alone. Worked too, Bennelong electors had to turf the little turd out of his seat!
