Antarctica coldest place on earth -97 deg C

Postby Squire » 27 Jun 2018, 09:55

Antarctica has dry air which reputedly allows the amount of heat radiation to be far greater than in places with more moisture in the air.

Dry air is probably an explanation of why desert regions are so cold at night.

-144 deg F = - 97 deg C.

... Scientists have found a new threshold for how far temperatures can plummet below zero on Earth, according to a study published this week in Geophysical Research Letters.

Antarctica's eastern plateau can see temperatures as cold as 144 degrees Fahrenheit below zero, according to new data that has been added to a preliminary study from 2013. High altitude and a close proximity to the South Pole make this region the most favorable location for extreme cold of this magnitude. ...

Ice is melting from below which is a sign the water temperature is increasing.

Ah, but can seismology detect warm water below the glacier—that was bullshit Lees came up with desperately. Ice is gone, replaced by water and he clown wanted to know how we knew it was warm water. :roll :roll :roll

-97°C at the top of the East Antarctic Ice sheet. The melting happens where the ice sheet/glaciers meet the sea. Pulses of warm sea water from oceans heated by AGW melt the ice, in parts warm air thins glaciers.

Nothing to do with the top of the East Antarctic Plateau.

Why are sea levels rising ever faster, Booby?

The sea rise has been miniscule.
Don't worry - it's safe to still buy a harbor residence in Sydney.
If the sea level has gone up it will go down as
the grand solar minimum intensifies.

Trust me - I'm from the Govt.

Sea levels are rising and rising at ever–faster rates.

That means spring tides and storm surges start from a higher level.

Why are sea levels rising, Booby? Obviously the world is warming and the ice melting, right?

Tropical glaciers are disappearing as are most glaciers. A few, in high altitude or latitude positioned just right wrt prevailing winds benefits from the higher evaporation/precipitation AGW provides. Nearly all glaciers are retreating but dickheads believe an obvious fraud and say it is cooling :roll :roll :roll

Booby doesn’t answer questions, he just slimes away and comes back when the question is forgotten.
