ummmmmmmmm

Change of ...??

I first heard for real .. Dame Joan Sutherland .. on an ABC coverage years ago now..... on a scungey TV...….

of one of the performances she gave ... umm towards the latter part of her Career..probably , in London. ??

it was a live performance, with all the pomp and grandeur of opera... she was SOLO.... I can only remember an image of her in her gown onstage,...……. AND ... her voice. !!!! :smitten

It was in Italian. :bgrin So.. I don't know the part... could have been Carmen or ..?? well frankly practically all operatic heroines die ugly deaths.. :roll …. the sheer humanity undid me.

………….. I heard her voice....!! .......................

totally unexpected...

it was exquisite... the suffering, the bravery, my god..I found myself quietly crying at the sheer power of the emotion she conveyed...

I finally understood why Opera has such a significant place in western culture.

I have been moved.. since.. but remain ignorant.

Anyone for the Opera.?

Sorry my friend, you've caught me in my blind spot. Apart from a brief flirtation with Andrea Boccelli, i know nothing about opera.

Like, zilch.

Except this. I like this:

:bgrin :bgrin

oh well/

Ride of the Valkyries was ……….. Wagner. :roll

Not to worry. Perhaps I shouldn't be so lazy.

As a result of hearing Dame Joan Sutherland, I decided I'd get some opera.
My sister admired this man so

I umm ended up buying a CD, by Carreras.. one of the 3 Tenors.... Placido Domingo , Carreras and the biggest fat singer of them all Pavolotti. Whatever his namewas..   Pavarotti

Passion was the name of the CD. Love Songs. Carreras is subtle.
He fought cancer, to make this record, and I don't know , now .. if he is still alive. I revisit it now and then, but the links with my sister (passed) means that doesn't happen very often.

Its old now, but the music isn't. It's ageless.

I'd just like to have some female voices ... I heard a brief piece recently , never caught the name, but...

the hairs rose up, and I got goosebumps............ THAT is music.

And because it bears repeating.

This is, what, 25 years old? More?

And still ... and now we're here.

Watch all the way to the end for Bob Brown's beautiful quote. Damn, i miss Bob:

Another iconic highway song - Turn the Page

I like how the audience sings the whole song with him.

Drove for about five minutes on Hawaii. Arrived with TIB and sprogs, get hire car, out of the airport...all good....this is easy peasy. Came where I joined a six lane Highway, three each way. Turned left, stayed immediate left, as you do in Australia...straight into three lanes on oncoming traffic! They had an 'Aussie Idiot Escape Lane' and there I sharply bailed. Off to the side of the road. Rang the Hire Car man....told him where his car was.......left the bastard there, and got a Cab. No more driving in the USA for this black duck!

I did something similar early one morning in Bucharest. Caffeine hadn't kicked in yet so I start driving in autopilot mode. Turn left onto a multi laned road, there's a car coming straight at me ... :b shit, jump into the lane immediately on my right and there was another car coming at me ... :b, jump into the next lane on my right and there's a third set of lights coming at me ... this time I went as far to the right as possible (another three lanes) ... I was fully awake by this stage, didn't need to wait for caffeine any more. It was a six lane highway with 3 lanes in each direction. I never made that mistake again.

unlike Aussie, It wasn't enough to scare me from driving. I spent the next two weeks on a driving tour of the Romanian countryside. Gorgeous place.
