13 month calendar

Postby Auggie » 02 Jan 2020, 16:37

I have recently come across an interesting alternative to the current calendar - it's known as the International Fixed Calendar and I love it!!

Here's how it works:

There are 13 months consisting of 28 days. Every month is exactly the same, which means that the 1st is always on a Sunday and the 28th is always on Saturday. The 13th month is known as Sol and is right in the middle of the year.

Then at the end of the year there is an additional day called 'Year Day' which doesn't belong to any day. Every leap year (which works the same as it does now), the additional day is added on to the end of the New Month as Leap Day and belongs to no particular day.

It would make budgeting and pay weeks so much easier.

I always got caught in the trap of dividing my yearly income by 12 and then by 4, thinking "oh yeah, there's 4 weeks in a month", and then questioning why I getting underpaid! Only to realise that there's 52 weeks in a year and that 12 x 4 doesn't equal 52.

Here's a question for everyone to answer:

"How many weeks are there in a month?"

Isn't that messy? Wouldn't you rather have just have 4 weeks in a month?

Yes.

I've always been in favour of the 13 month calendar.

I'd also prefer 6 or more seasons.

It's all man made stuff, so we can do what we like.

It always amuses me when people say "Summer came early this year", or similar bullshit.

Nature doesn't obey man-made concepts.

Try to explain this to some people though, and they just don't understand.

They truly believe that 'summer' is a real thing.

Crazy.

In the southwest of Australia, the Nyoongar seasonal calendar includes six different seasons in a yearly cycle.

These are Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. Each of the six seasons represents and explains the seasonal changes we see annually. The flowering of many different plants, the hibernation of reptiles and the moulting of swans are all helpful indicators that the seasons are changing.

it's for that reason that you never in a lease stipulate rent in monthly periods. Stick to weekly, you can't go wrong...

unless you're the tenant, then try your hardest :giggle

52/12?

that's why you don't just use 12, for the yr. You use? x 12/13. So you times 12 and then divide by 13.
52x12/13 = 48.
That spreads out the days over the yr, … well that's sort of how I used to work out these things when I was involved in the commercial world.

Isn't 13 x 4 easier than 12x 4.35?

You'd be one of those people who "think" that 'summer' is an actual thing.

You think that 'January' actually exists.
