I replied to the tweet containing the above graph, making sure to disaparagingly mention global cooling, GSM and mini ice age—that will put both tweets in the timelines for those #tags.

Heh, Lees always asking “what are the error bars on that” has no idea about error bars.

Reply from Finland Met people:

I emailed the Finnish Met office. Got a reply just now:

Hi,

Maximum temperature in Arctic Finland in August is 32,3 °C (1.8.2018). That is 90,14 °F. It was measured in Inari Väylä weather station. There is not enough observations from Väylä to calculate climatological normal values (1981-2010 averages) but the average maximum temperature in last 25 years (1993-2018) in August is 15,9 °C and the standard deviation is 4,2 °C.

The highest temperature in Arctic Finland during the whole summer this far was 33,4 °C (92,12 °F) in Utsjoki Kevo. The average maximum temperature in July in Utsjoki is 18,3 °C and the standard deviation is 5,0 °C.

So both are more than two standard deviations from the mean, Utsjoki Kevo more than three standard deviations.

Ice shelves aren't sea ice though: so what is the point you are trying to make?

Apparently Arctic Finland reached 97°C this week. How many standard deviations is that from mean or median temperature please?

We have been following the heat wave in Europe and how it may be related to AGW. Any info you can give us will be highly appreciated!

Whoah,.................. love to see the answer to that one :buddy

Sorry, pinky, an El Nino is forming in the Pacific!

last I heard it was 50/50. WE do NOT need an El Nino. :OMG

Lets all turn our minds to the task of telling the earth.

We don't need an El Nino...

HBS Guy wrote:Late summer—and arctic temps edge over the median temperature line! No wonder the ice is disappearing! I think some high pressure system is over a fair bit of the Arctic so clear skies and sunlight can reach the ice and water.

Geez loise: why dont' we just pretend those temperatures haven't been below the average for the last month :roll
