Yes and No! The odds are NOT 50/50! Since there are two greens(0, 00), the odds are around 47%. But, this bet is still the best bet in the casino.

I agree. Like with Blackjack where each hands offers a 44 -48% chance of winning. But still the best bet, is to take whatever you can afford to lose, and bet it all on black or red. And whether you win of lose, WALK AWAY!

Walking away is the advantage you have over the casino. I did spend far too much time in Adelaide Casino in 1986 and, yes, did read up about gambling. Have not been back since Dec 1986.
