All sorts of cancers. It is the plant most venerated by the druids. Anyone who's read an Asterix book will know the answer. It's the primary ingredient in Getafix's magic potion.

But out of interest, there are native varieties.

well obviously I haven't ever read an Asterix book, nor do I know Getafix (?) . Magic potion .. oh so yeah some popular reference to fictional characters in some limited series.

Firstly Pink, one if it's alkaloids, viscotoxin, was isolated and widely applied as a chemotherapy drug some time ago. More commonly now the whole plant is used by a very significant number of people with all sorts of cancers. Yes. Widely used.

And Asterix was more than a limited series. It was huge. Quite a number of films have been made of them.

Well whatever... I don't know, not having been familiar with Getafix .
I thought they were characters from comics and I believe I 've seen some art manga style.

I am aware of ancient celtic war leaders ... Greatorix..? ... off the top of my head... fascinating how they fought off the Romans for as long as they did.

But Asterix..? sorry I have other things to consider.

Aspirin comes from willow bark but no, viscotoxin is antineoplastic.

And Asterix is French but yes, comic books. And films.

Mistletoe, I have a native one growing in a eucalypt its a meter wide perfect circle , apparently birds drop the seed in the branches.....

Only read a few in the funny paper on Sundays and I think I watched the real life movie in the 80's.....
I'll try to find a picture of the mistletoe, when it gets really dry the tree throws it's leaves and only the mistletoe is left green, very pretty...

Ohh damm my turn.... I'll need another coffee and post.....
