Trump has been filing tax returns for decades. Do you really think that all of a sudden there is something criminal about them? Decades of tax filings, Shell.Seth, you are making a false assumption. Or, an argument out of ignorance. You are assuming that because Trump's tax records are in the hands of the IRS and the tax authorities, that if there were evidence of any improprieties, that these bodies would indict and prosecute. But even if there were overwhelming evidence of wrongdoings, it doesn't mean that they would indict and prosecute. Because, Trump is the sitting President of the US. Although there is NOTHING in the Constitution that prevents any sitting President from being indicted and prosecuted by Federal and State courts, it is still an unwritten rule to wait until the end of his term. And, no one wants to be the first to rock that boat.
Remember, Trump has a history of failed business ventures, using the bankruptcy rules to his advantage, defaulting on his loans, screwing his contractors and workers(not paying them), and hiring shading lawyers and advisors(now convicts) to do his dirty work. He is someone who routinely engages in sham financial schemes, and commits fraud(property estimates) to avoid paying millions in taxes. So, we are NOT just talking about John Q. honest Citizen here. We are talking about someone, who IS truly the biggest loser. If anyone's tax records should be put under public scrutiny, then this lying, narcissistic sociopathic POTUS would certainly be my first choice.
Many Americans still believe that the President is a savvy and successful businessman who knows what he is doing. But the actual record suggests the exact opposite.www.newyorker.com
You are simply making excuses for him, and even making this a partisan issue(wow). The obvious question is, if he has nothing to hide, then why all the delays, excuses, and the spreading of blame? Is he hiding something? Like the truth? Why do you think that Presidential candidates are asked to submit their tax refunds? It is certainly NOT a legal requirement(only 7 out of 34 past presidents and vice-presidents have declined to file personal tax refunds). However it IS a legal requirement, that these candidates file a "Personal Financial disclosure". Also, the IRS cannot publicly disclose anyone's tax refunds. Only the individual taxpayer can do that(unless under court orders).
It's custom for presidential candidates to release their tax returns, but is it legally required?www.robertreeveslaw.com
Really, that is fallacious. Obama's business practices were never questionable, like Trump's. Obama DID released 11 years of Tax Refunds already. If he hadn't is only speculative and irrelevant. Even Nixon disclosed his tax returns. Did you know that Trump paid zero income taxes 10 out of the 15 years before 2017. I guess that this means, that he must be a real smart businessman, right?
Mitt Romney was another crook who refused, initially, to release his tax refunds. But, eventually released one year. Claiming that it was an attack on the rich. He even had the nerve to request that Obama release at least 10 years of his. I personally believe that if he was not a Mormon, he would have been elected.
I also personally believe that the public should know everything about the person they are going to vote to represent their nation. Including any history of criminality, or sainthood. Judging from Trump's history of lies and criminalities, he should be that last person on the planet that anyone should trust. And, anyone OUTSIDE of the US already knows this.
It seems ironic that someone who claims that Obama needs to prove his American citizenship(completely vetted at the highest level), would then refuse to produce tax records and other documents, that would prove how rich he is, how much he gives to charities, how smart he is, what an art of the deal maker he is, and what a great businessman he is. All of the things that he constantly brags about. Odd!!!
Trump has proven three things.
That candidates do NOT need to have any political, military, elected, or business experience(honest), to become the POTUS.
That candidates can be a racist, a separatist, a misogynist, a narcissist, a sociopath, a chronic liar, a xenophobe, an idiot, or a person with zero true social empathy, and still become the POTUS.
That the strength of the Constitution can withstand attacks, even from this Authoritarian ruler for 4 years.
Just my 2 cents worth.
I realize that Obama's income was never in question. But the hypothetical I posed is not to impune Obama, but to point out that this effort to get Trump's tax information is purely political. Democratic Hawaii would never have tried to get Obama's tax records if he wished to keep them private. But New York is run by Democrats and Trump is a Republican.
The effort to get his tax records made public is political. It is an effort to overrule his right to privacy for purely partisan political reasons, and that is not legitimate.
