Which gives the most decent-to-great movies for the buck?

Probably Stan. More Australian and European shows on Stan than on Netflix.

Prime has a few gems but it's mostly B-grade, and that's generous.

For movies though, a great free site is SBS on Demand.

When I return from Tassie I will see what is involved in connecting the TV to the laptop and set up the FTTC modem etc then look at the services. Don’t want to spend too much tho.

Need to watch more SBS on Demand.

So do I.

I keep forgetting about it.

Some great stuff on there.

You know how i just said Prime has some real gems? Upload. Simply excellent. Set 13 years in the future and regarding uploading consciences upon near death into a seeming paradise. Made by the creator of Parks and Recreation and the US version of The Office.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

Right!!!! So I have now joined you Netflix etc nobs!!! Was at Donnie Darko's over Xmas and he had the thing. Got me hooked on The Queens Gambit. That was fantastic in all respects except one ~ the ultimate outcome was predictable enough, but all else was superb. The woman who played Beth Harmon was just perfect.

Then, onto, of all things you'd never expect me to watch....Bridgerton. Yours truly Smart Arse picked who Lady Whitsledown was in the first episode. I learned a new meaning for the word 'ton.'

I hope they make another series out of that as there are some great characters I'd love to see more of.

The casting has a great twist given how they have put black people into starring roles, many roles. Great stuff.

Now....starting on The Crown.

Expect more rubbish from me as I play film critic.

There is a great book “The Fall, or Dodge in Hell” about something very similar, scanning brains and uploading them to a computer system—a major networked computer system. By Neal Stephenson who is an ace SciFi writer.

I will find out how to hook my laptop to my TV set—it is “smart” so can be done, then with 50:20 FTTC (less at night, LOL!) watch some decent video! TV is shit!

if your tv is a smart tv, you should be able to 'mirror' whatever is on your laptop onto your tv wirelessly. I've done it with both the wifes laptop and our mobile phones several times.

Maybe google how to do it as I just kinda stumbled onto it in each instance. .. i usually just play around with the laptop/phones until it works and I don't recall what I did

FTTC up and running.

My sister said Netflix was mainly for younger people, she got it but transferred it to her daughter.

Will have to see if TV has a wireless input—it is a bit elderly as these things go, 10 years old I think.

Start with SBS On Demand, get that running on the TV set then worry about a paid service.

With my block on the market officially now next thing is to make an offer on a block I have my eyes on then see how the sale of my present block goes. TV might take a back seat for a while.
