Starlink Satellite internet has begun (Better than Nothing Beta)

SpaceX has officially begun rolling out what it’s deemed a Starlink internet “Better Than Nothing Beta” across the United States and Canada.
The culmination of a mere 11 months of dedicated Starlink launches, SpaceX says that the constellation – some 820 satellites strong – is now large and mature enough to begin covering all of Canada and the US in 2020, “rapidly expanding to near global coverage of the populated world by 2021.”
While global coverage is thus close on the horizon, SpaceX is striving to make it abundantly clear to early Starlink beta customers that the constellation is in a state of extreme change and instability and will be far from perfect: literally Better Than Nothing, for the time being.

The Starlink beta invite also informs early users that they should expect to receive speeds of 50-150 Mbps and latency (ping) between 20 and 40 milliseconds with occasional service outages and connection interruptions.

Wow this is just the beginning, already 2 x 6 times faster than Skymuster and 15-30 times less ping.....

Now with a actual product can see how it works......

Skymuster is higher hence more ping.

Any info on pricing yet?
it's expensive but interestingly Rural USA is REALLY expensive and even the initial price is cheap for thousands of internet users there, unlike Australia that can use NBN very cheaply ....
Its $100 a month and $500 for the receiver USD, this price will go down a lot with scale , this tech has never been done before, that why even Star link are calling it...

Space pollution!

Even Australia is going to contribute to more space junk for security reasons...these satellites are going to be even smaller satellites

wow USA's much fabled better internet that Australia isnt that much better, especially the price..........
Average internet costs in the United States today stand at 57.2 Mbps for about $65 ($83AUD) per month

Rural American's are really hit hard and have terrible Internet... Good thing we in the bush have NBN wireless and Satellite at a good low fixed price... poor Americans getting screwed again by their government...

The best thing though is Star link will be in Australia, maybe this year, definitely next year.....
Like everything Elon is involved with this will be a major disruptor.....

Did I hear correctly this morning? I was prepping for work and had the tv on in the background.

Musk was using one of his satellites as a wine cellar and was now waiting for some of the wine to come back after 6 months in space?

to be that rich

It's available to order and will start this year, unlike USA where the rural internet is so bad, Australia has NBN sat and it's pretty good at a 3rd the price with no set up fee... I'd say star link will get cheaper and if I ever need faster internet I'll be looking into it.... Skymuster is working fine for me now though thanks to NBN....

Starlink speeds increasing to 300Mbps with just 20ms latency in 2021

Damn and this will get better again. when Economy of scale brings the price down I'll get it..

When large numbers sign up the bandwidth will have to be shared a lot and the speed seen by subscribers will not be 300mbps.

they already made the decision not to do what the early satellites did and have to many subscribers that took the speed to almost zero..... that will be the speed.....

on a side note the nbn satellite I use after 3 years is still the same speed......

Thanks......I'll have ta put that in my next post of "Whats Biden been up to lately?"

PS.....JFYI.......better than 98% of all internet access in America is run by Private Corporate Enterprise, not run by the US Government...........
