Korean artificial sun sets the new world record of 20-sec-long operation at 100 million degrees

The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR), a superconducting fusion device also known as the Korean artificial sun, set the new world record as it succeeded in maintaining the high temperature plasma for 20 seconds with an ion temperature over 100 million degrees (Celsius).

Still a long way away but progressing, they are aiming at fusion for 5 minutes by 2025....

Lot of work to do on the grid, make it more robust, more capable of dealing with intermittent RE. We need a huge solar power array, PB or thermal, in a northern desert, that would boost RE heaps.

Well, the state governments had to do something with our fleet of coal fired power stations aging rapidly. Since they found it popular I guess they will keep going with it. All good.

I think there will always be work to do on the grid. Things are moving so fast in the RE sector that what we do now will be obsolete in just a couple of years.

they should use bamboo ...incredibly strong and flexible. Some Asian countries they even use it for scaffolding when building high rise buildings.

Although I don't know how long it stays that way once it has been cut off the plant. 12 months whilst building a new building is one thing, the winds towers on the other hand need to stay up for years
