I decided this arvo to have a look... pulled out the glovebox, and pulled out a plastic grid above the fan. A small gap, so I got a torch and YEP, the RAT was lying on top of the fan, and maggots came out as well.
I used a long pair of BBQ tongs ( which I use for picking up dead critters) reached into the slot and after some disgusting minutes managed to grab it and drag it out. YUKKY.
Half dessicated ..pulled out as much of other debris as I could. Sprayed insect spray in the area to try to kill any remaining maggots,. Left it for a while then turned on the fan and the aircon... phew.. it blew out some more leaves and stuff. Seems the rat had chewed through the top grid so it could curl up in the round centre of the fan.

Will definitely need an air con repair. Have to wait till everyone is back at work. Eek.. still smells, but I've left the bonnet up, and doors open. Should probably shut them now.

Thank goodness it is removed. !!

if you've done that you should have found your filter ... I'd suggest you replace it. But don't let the air con guys replace it, they'll charge you $100 to put in a filter you can buy online and do yourself for $15. When I did mine I was surprised how easy it was given what they quoted me. What a ripp off those guys are.

Yeah there is a filter. A couple of fasteners on a plastic frame holds it on. Will check out the fittings... Just hard to spend much time in it.. had a go with some deodorising drops, then had to go to the shops. ALL windows wide-open.!

I guess they're all different but mine just slid into place and sat there. No clips to undo or anything. It must have taken me 30 seconds to replace it. That's why i got the shits at the $100 quote I'd been given.

That part was easy... thing is the fan speed isn't working and it stinks. I can apparently drop the whole assembly by undoing three screws, purchase a replacement for that chewed out bit... BUT means I have to stick my head under to see the screws.. TIME for a MASK and HEADcovering. YUK.

I just got vaccinated for Covid. Just sitting around for 15 minutes before I leave and go home. I’ve got to come back for the second dose in a month.

Yes, it is, but not just for myself. This was happening at an expo center. Huge operation. The people getting vaccinated were all people working in the medical field and first responders like police and fire, and I was eligible because I work at the Oregon Police Academy. To see this huge coordinated effort was encouraging and uplifting. I felt like I could actually see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I slept more than usual since I got the shot. Feeling soreness at the injection site but no more than with a flu shot. Bit of a headache this morning. Other than that I'm fine.
