Lockdown has just about stopped the Flu in Australia

The trend continues just 55 Cases of the Flu in Australia halfway through June... That really is Impressive and really shows how effective lock down is in containing Viruses...
Last year there was 57,000 cases in June... You can see the first two months of the year where the highest ever in Australia even beating last year which had the worse outbreak ever ,then middle march when lock downs started it's almost gone to Zero...
If we can just stop people going to work sick thinking they are to important to stop we have a chance of containing this killer as well...
So far lock down this year has saved thousands of lives by stopping flu numbers...

I think the way the government encouraged all people to have their flu shots had a lot to do with it!
flu shits don't stop you getting the flu ... they only stop you getting the latest strain of flu. I've tried flu shots twice, both those years I got the flu bad, the last time was about 8 years ago ... since then I've said fuck the flu shot, and I've haven't caught the flu at all

Well I am the opposite, have been having the flu shot for years and never had the flu for years!

yup last year they had 350,000 infections and the flu shot was to old to do any good, first 2 months of this year numbers where even higher, it's only when lock down started numbers dropped.....

Just looking again at Flu numbers and they are still almost zero this year because of the lock down, It has saved thousands of lives this year and really shows how well lock down is at combating respiratory virus' last month saw 216 cases compared to 57842 last year and we are in the beginning of Flu season... those that say social distancing wont stop the spread of virus's are just plain wrong... so far to the middle of this month are 84 cases compared to 70151 last year...
Even if there haven't been many lives lost from C-19 there are thousands saved from low Flu numbers this year....

Doubt if flu shots are having much impact, last year was the worse ever (350,000 cases) and to make it worse last year the flu shots where to old and they were ineffective.. The beginning of the year when the flu hit the northern hemisphere it was very deadly and was attacking kids... we can be thankful we have been spared this years strain..

Viruses mutate. I had a flu shot this year but mostly I don’t bother, the protection they give (if they aren’t too old to start with) is fairly fleeting. But with COVID19 I wanted to take no chances, esp with Mum.

  • Activity – Following a high start to the 2020 interseasonal period, currently, influenza and influenza-like illness (ILI) activity are lower than average across all systems for this time of year. At the national level, notifications of laboratory-confirmed influenza have substantially decreased since mid-March and remain low.
  • Impact – There is no indication of the potential impact on society of the 2020 season at this time.
  • Severity – There is no indication of the potential severity of the 2020 season at this time. In the year to date, of the 21,005 notifications of laboratory confirmed influenza, 36 (0.17%) laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated deaths have been notified to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS).

Not much has Changed 50 new cases this month, almost 100,000 cases during AUgust in 2017 and 60,000 last August...

If you need any evidence that social distancing works you just need to look at these respiratory virus infection numbers ...

36 deaths for the year and the first two and half months where the highest infections ever in Australia...Be interesting to find out if any of the last 1000 people to be infected have died, well those that caught the Flu since lock-down... If the death rate is.17% then maybe 1-2 ......

128 cases of the flu in July...... Even though we are seeing a few now dying of Covid it's great to know that thousands of lives have been spered this year from social distancing.. Just a shame it took a pandemic to fix what was already a major killer in Australia....
So, to continue with your theme, how should social distancing within the frame of "normal flu" be advanced to a level you would see as more adept?

I'm saying here I've had no flu shot in my memory. I was vaccinated as a child for all the usual .. for girls.. but as an adult.. apart from tetanus, which isn't a virus is it..?? hmm have to look that up//

I have medicine which seems to keep it away.:smirkr o s e:deadhorse:duel:deadhorse:oldman:deadhorse:duel:chat:love:

Of course I have very little personal contact physically with people, and that helps heaps too.!!

If we can stop the working culture of people thinking they are so important to the world and where they work, it will all collapse if they don't work sick and just stay at home, a lot of virus spread would be stopped.
