I see those phones in antique shops and run a mile! I used these in my first ever job. Handpiece weighed a ton, the rotary dial was slow as fuck, YUCK!

Same with chamberpots. UGH! Me and sis (only one sis then) had to use one in Woodside Immigration camp. STINK! Would not buy a solid gold chamberpot if it was for sale for 10¢!

And yet when we grew up with rotary phones we didn’t think anything of it. I remember I had many phone numbers memorized. The phone company would send us a phone book every year, and it got used a lot. We would tape a piece of lined paper to the front of it and write down important phone numbers so they would be handy. Nowadays, a phone book is a program in your iPhone.

I had to look up “chamber pot”. Gross by modern standards, but understandable. I guess the alternative was a cold walk in the dark to the outhouse. Modern plumbing... one of those nice things we take for granted.

I had many phone numbers memorized.

You used to memorise all the most common numbers. I still remember the phone number I grew up with and the numbers we used to call most often .. these days you barely even get a look at the number .. you just hit the persons name and it dials
I've been married about 13 years now. My wife has had the same mobile number in all that time and if you were to ask me what her number was I couldn't tell you without looking it up :groan

Funny how you said you just hit the person’s name and it “dials”.
