Covid-19 Revisit

don't tell me your complaining now about too many cases and deaths after months of downplaying it all.....:wall

So, as the numbers of infected keep increasing, and the death count keep rising, then this is the proof that we are containing this virus very well? Sounds logical to me!! I guess when we reach 20% of the population being infected, we can then claim almost complete containment, right? Just insane!!

Now you are looking at world stats. You never wanted to before.

You must see the abyss we perch upon.

Unless the virus dies out of it's own accord.. and I think that unlikely, we are facing many more deaths , across the northern hemisphere...

I hope we remain relatively unscathed, but I can't help but think any loosening of Australian borders.. for tourists... is IDIOCY.

In what context did I mention any world stats in the last post? The point I was clearly making was, what moron could logically claim that we are containing the virus, when the number of cases and deaths just keep rising? If the numbers were going down, or even smoothing out, then you MIGHT have a case(although fallacious). Otherwise you are just making a bad joke, or in denial.

You must see the abyss we perch upon.
Sorry, I don't understand gibberish, or cryptic!!

Fear and panic mongering again. How many viruses have we humans managed to live through, in the last 100 years? How many viruses have we humans managed to live with? How many viruses have we ever needed to isolate the population against? Or to suspend individual freedoms and rights?

Viruses do not die. They were never alive in the first place. They simply become latent or dormant again. Just like all the other viruses. But the virus will always be able to reactivate, because of some external activator(temperature, weather, pollution, chemical, etc.). So, viruses CAN'T die. And will be with us forever! Do you think that the polio, smallpox, measles, hepatitis, HIV, SARS, the common cold and flu, and the chicken pox viruses, all died off and then resurrected themselves? All we can do, is develop own own natural immunity to these viruses. And pass that immunity on to the next generation. Or, you can start planning on living with a self-contained Hazmat suit, at the bottom of a swimming pool. For the rest of your life.

Closing down borders, isolating a country from the world, trying separate 25M people from each other, ending the livelihood and dreams of almost 1M Australians, and suspending the basic freedoms and rights of the 99.99% of Australians that are not even infected. Now that is true idiocy!

Here is a question for you. Should the 25,055 people who have survived Covid-19, be exempt from all restrictions, since it is very unlikely that they can infect or be re-infected?

30 July there was 720 new infections and 4250 cases in the week of 30 July to 6 August....
29 Aug to 4 Sep there where 159 deaths for the week....
lets see this week 28 locally acquired and 86 from overseas travelers
this week no deaths 1 death since 14 October...(14 days)
210 people currently with C-19 in Australia...

yes the numbers of infected keep increasing, and the death count keep rising, however that rate is very very very low...
I guess this is another truth your using, like dogs have flea's :groan

So how long with 28 local cases a week will it take to infect 20% of the population ?:headscratcher3
A few months ago when infections where going up exponentially before lock downs yes. Not now...
As you can see though, we need to be very vigilant with Over-sea's travelers and still need strict quarantining and not let in more people than we can police for those important 2 weeks...

It could easily escalate again with another balls up....

yes and the goverment should insert a chip into their arms so we know they are not lying and the Loving Government can keep track of them.....

Reinfections do happen—viruses mutate.
It is extremely rare for anyone who has been infected by a virus, to be re-infected by the same strain of virus. Although, it is possible that a person can be re-infected by a different strain of the same virus. But the symptoms would be milder, since the genetic variations are so small. For example, how often is anyone re-infected with polio, whopping coughs, measles, or even HIV? Since covid-19 is a complete mutation of the SARS virus(SARS-CoVid-2), it is NOT just a different strain of SARS.

Our immune system's job is not only to fight the virus, but to remember the virus's RNA signature(protein). If we can be re-infected by the same virus, then what is the point of having an immune system? The human race would have gone extinct long ago.

I did say "very unlikely"(not impossible), that people who have recovered from Covid-19, will infect others or can be re-infected. Unless they have an already compromised immune system(as with the elderly). But for the overwhelming majority of recovered Covid-19 victims, they are Covid-19 free. So what is the rationale for quarantining them? Does the fact that they have recovered after 14 days, need more proof?

Viruses do mutate. But remember most mutations are NOT beneficial, and make the virus unstable. It also makes the virus accumulates more errors in its RNA coding. Please read this, to separate science fiction from reality. And, to understand a virus's life cycle.

Reinfections have happened tho and it was worse the second time around.

I agree that patients can be re-infected with the SARS CoV-2 virus. There is ample evidence to suggest this. The question is, that it may be the same illness(Covid-19), but NOT the same genetically distinct virus. And yes, many second infections CAN be worse than the original. But these cases are rare, and has very little influence on the spread of the virus. Which was the other point I was making.

Do you believe that the government should insert locator chips into the arms of any Australian? For any reason? Do you believe that if the numbers of deaths and infections keep rising, that this is evidence that the governments actions are working? Do you have an opinion, on why as more people are being infected, that the death rate is falling(relative to the number infected)? Herd immunity?

The truth is Shell we don't know. Less than a year in, we have a long way to go to understand the consequences.

I think it's we know what the virus is attacking and protecting those citizens better that are susceptible... look at Italy Spain France and UK even New York, not prepared at all on how bad it would be and caught with their pants down... Then look at China and the South east Asian countries that have had recent bad virus infections like South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand , lock-downs right away , just about everyone wearing masks. Very good Containment.....
Just on our home front, look at the lessons QLD learnt from the dying aged in Victoria.. Every time there has been even a wiff of infection they have really looked after Aged Care Facilities....
Unfortunately it normally takes either tragedy or a kick in the wallet to make changes, this is no different...

Critics have slammed Kmart shoppers who rushed to Melbourne stores to celebrate the end of the state’s 15-week lockdown.

Photos and videos posted on social media show hundreds of Melburnians queuing up before midnight on Tuesday to enter Kmart stores.

Many concerned Australians have voiced their disbelief at the wild scenes, accusing the “foolish” shoppers of risking a “third wave”.

“After 139 days locked away, Melburnians still haven’t learnt how to social distance,” said one. “Wave three is coming.”

Any idea that people will naturally do the right thing is dispelled right here.... :groan

any Melbournite that tries to look down their nose at the rest of Australia for being culturally superior should have their eyes taped open and made to watch these video's :)

CNN's @AlisynCamerota: "Hospitals in WI are near capacity. Does that give you any pause about going there and holding a big rally?" Trump 2020 Press Sec. Hogan Gidley: “No, it doesn’t … the VP has the best doctors in the world around him."

There you go, folks! No need to worry, Pence has the best doctors in the world!

Hospitals in Wisconsin are nearly at capacity but we will hold a superspreader event and Pence will be fine, best doctors in the world!

Trump won WI in 2016 IIRC? Hanging on to that state clearly more important than mass deaths caused by a stupid political rally for someone who will lose the election.
