This story has spread internationally defaming the whole political system in Australia.

An apology is not enough. ScoMo should resign for a culture of misogyny, even using MP Linda Reynolds as a misogynist against women. ScoMo and Linda Reynolds should resign for complicity by protecting the perpetrator.

The real story is how many sex attacks by politicians and government officials have been covered up.

Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison apologized to a former staffer for how her sexual assault complaint was handled after she alleged that a colleague raped her.

Former staffer Brittany Higgins said she was not supported when she reported that she was raped two years ago in the office of then-Defense Industry Minister Linda Reynolds, Higgins said in an interview Monday, The Associated Press reported.

Higgins said that Reynolds questioned her story and made her meet in the office where the alleged rape took place.

“That should not have happened, and I do apologize,” Morrison said while also condemning the meeting in the same office where the alleged rape happened.

“I deeply, deeply regret conducting the meeting in my office where the alleged incident occurred,” Reynolds said.

Higgins has not named the man she is accusing but says he has been fired because he left her in the office alone, which is considered a security breach.

“We have to do more, whether it’s in this workplace or any other workplace in the country, to ensure people can work safely in their place and be at their best and do what they went into that job to do,” Morrison said.

Morrison has ordered for Parliament’s culture to be investigated and for new procedures to be enacted to create a better workplace. ...

I'm sure we still need a trail to find out what the truth is...
So far we know she told her boss and said she didn't want to press charges though and the guy responsible was fired... Not sure what else could be done if the victim didn't want to take it further......

I don't see any cover up or sweeping under the covers... No way could her boss of made more of a deal about this if the Victim wanted it to remain private....

There are always words that can be spoken to the victim to dissuade her from filing a police complaint, including 'suggestions' to adverse affects, not only her job but her career. In fact that the matter has now been exposed will mean the victim is known and her chance of now pursuing a criminal charge diminished.

Victims already know that their whole life will be exposed in court by aggressive defence lawyers.

there has been no accusations that this has happened..

The Victim decided to go to the press with this... Her job was a press secretary I think she knows what she is doing as far as the media are concerned...
What I find sus is she went public before she has even gone to the police over this matter.....

If you have ever dealt with the police you would know that justice is slow and uncertain as to outcome especially if the perpetrator files a complaint that he has been falsely accused.

The Australian culture is that 'she probably deserved it', and if she has no defence injuries 'she didn't object'.

has there been any of this happening in this case though ???

She has not filed a complaint with the police after all this time but after a year has gone to the Media and she works with media so is not a innocent to how they work.........

Your generalizing more and more instead of focusing what is known in THIS case......
Please with what is known, how could of the PM or her boss done any better...

They apologized for holding a meeting in the office the alleged rape happened...
Even there it's not clear her Boss knew what the complaint was before she told her, so wouldnt of known the offence happened in her office....

What else do YOU think should of happened....

no, she went to the police two years ago and filed a complaint but then decided she didn'twant to proceed with the complaint for the time being. She was concerned about her career. According to the cops this happens often in these sorts of cases and they file the case away and save it to give her her the option to persue it later on if she so wishes.

need a link the one in this thread says she didn't ever go to the police.......

Higgins, who was Reynolds’ media adviser, said she decided not to pursue a police complaint at the time

was he?
and why is scotty pretending he didn't know about it until a few days ago?

Well the link said the guy was fired, not for rape but for leaving the victim alone in her boss's office when she was drunk, against protocol.....

umm probably didn't if she complained to her boss but decided to not go ahead with charges then why would ScoMo know about it....her boss did the right thing and didnt betray her employee's wish's

A former federal ministerial staffer plans to re-instigate a police complaint after she was allegedly raped in Parliament House in Canberra.
from the same article

The relevant security camera footage relating to this incident was viewed by the Australian Federal Police in April 2019 and has been stored on an ongoing basis at the direction of the Presiding Officers and with the agreement of the AFP for their access as required for any investigation," they said in a statement.

Saw an interview on ABC (i think ) yesterday where some cop being interviewed said they had spoken to her about it at the time but she did not wish to proceed with the complaint. I remember it because I was surprised when he said it was actually common with rape cases and a lot of women did it. According to him some went ahead with the complaint at a later date, some never did. But police would keep the original record on file indefinitely so that they had a record if the victim ever decided to proceed.

Her boss has her own boss to deal with and he is in charge. If scomo didn't know then the libs were incompetent at best. Corrupt at worst.

Wonder woman
Good on her, and further, she damns Scott Morrison, The PM, for his recent statements. and so she should. It disgusts me. You wonder why there are so many rape victims who don't follow-up DDH.? What is happening now provides you with a perfect example .

Reynolds. Cah, and ultimately Morrison preside over this travesty.
Just trying to cover their arses, with 'plausible deniability'.

The whole thing needs to be fully investigated by an INDEPENDENT authority. Hmmm I wonder if such a thing exists these days in Australia.

and yet she hasn't gone to the police to file charges... and a professional media person....
still no answer on what her boss or the PM should of done differently when it happened... if the victim at the time wanted to keep it quit why would the PM even know....
She has gone to the press and not the police doesn't that sound weird ??????

not covered it up for starters ................. i can't believe you're so rusted on you'll condone the cover up of the rape of a woman
I've seen nothing where she went to the police... where did you find that info ?

I wondered when you would blame me of that..... Please show me where I've condoned anything, even better please show us the coverup........
So far you keep leveling new accusations with no answers.......

What could of her boss done differently when it happened ?
Why would of ScoMo been told about it ?
Why did she make it a media trial , before even contacting the police ?
